Smokey amps/receivers are usually not too much trouble to clean up and de-stinkify.

I've cleaned up several pieces with no problems. For switches and pots, use deoxit 5% flushing spray. Thoroughly spray the internals, then work the switch or pot back and forth 50 or so times. Usually does the trick. (This applies to any noisy or sticy switch/pot)

For stained and stinky areas like heatsinks and panels, I usually mix up a batch of ammonia water (20% or so) and use q-tips in delicate areas, paper towels for flat surfaces. Always test an inconspcious areas first before going to town to make sure the solution won't harm the finish. If you want to delve into cleaning the circuits, I recommend getting some sort of art supply paint brush. Prepare a dish of luke warm water with drops of dish soap. Wet the brush and dab the circuits. Use the solution sparingly. Don't saturate anything. Of course, let the circuits dry completly (probably a day) before powering up. Be careful not to bend, break, or otherwise harm the circuits. If your not comfortable poking around inside, then its probably better not try.

So I just received my amp back from UPS with a note that I need to file a value claim based on whether or not it is repairable. You should see the box. Beat to hell on all sides. Opened it, poorly packed, no protection replaced on sides. Now the bottom corners are dinged, leaving only one good one. To say I'm a bit pissed is accurate. Moral of the story: Pack your boxes with overkill so you don't have to deal with this on either end. They want me to back and have the shipper file additional claim info so that this will never end.

EDIT: I am referring to the second Anthem amp, not the one George sold me. That one arrived perfectly in a huge, overkill packing job and box.

Thanks. The good news is that if I file a total or near total loss, I will get a great deal and possibly a refund of $700.00 plus. After the careless repack and basketball playing with my box, I don't feel guilty at all. It is total negligence on the part of the UPS man. The sad thing is that they dinged up a sweet piece of gear that isn't being made any longer. They also did something unusual by sending me the paperwork to file instead of the seller, so I am in control of the situation and don't have to go through so many channels.

    Lee,

Just hang very tough, my experience with them is they stall the issue's but in the end they have always paid me on my two claims with them. Fedex was about the same.

In my experience UPS seems to deliver more damaged items. Maybe there's more disgruntled employees there. Hope everything works out.
