Awesome amp.
Tube front, solid state muscle on the **** end. Best of both worlds brohams - this is one of those deals that may very well be the LAST amp you buy.
You'll spend substantially more, to do a little better.
Cheers,

The SE edition includes upgraded capacitors, tubes and Kimber Kable wiring if I'm not mistaken. It's a very good example of a solid tube amplifier, hell, the SOB is running LSi15 on it...hello?CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

SOLD! I've lost my mind, but what the hell. Again, this site has cost me serious money. I'm going for the second one on Ebay that ends in 45 minutes EST. This should be a sweet bi-amped setup. I'm holding you two (Russ/Doro) personally responsible for my foreclosure proceedings. I will also be expecting lots of guidance on this stuff since I am blindy trusting you guys....This better be good!
George, I will work out the details later today. You should come to Polk Fest and then you could hand deliver!
Here's the other on Ebay with $300.00 Power Cord. http://cgi.ebay.com/Anthem-Amp-2-SE-Amplifier_W0QQitemZ300021260121QQihZ020QQcategoryZ39783QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Same seller is selling this pre-amp as well. Any thoughts on price and extras and the piece itself?

Thanks to all. Dumb luck. I hope George doesn't mind me telling you, but he was looking for another, found the one on Ebay, then decided to just sell his. Otherwise, two coming up at the same time may not have ever occurred. George actually tried to steer me away from his piece when I told him I was considering bi-amping with solid state, as he thought that would be a better fit for the SRS's than his singular Anthem. Unknown to him, I was aware of the second piece on Ebay and figured I couldn't go wrong!
FWIW, that example above is what is right with this site. A seller (George) who stood to pull in $725.00 sent me looking in another direction when he could have closed the sale. We know each other, but he didn't even realize that at the time, further proof of complete integrity. Because of that, I never even questioned the price.
Again, I don't know jack about these other than I knew George knows good stuff and the tube masters recommended them as well. Plus, I like the concept of tube sound with the punch of S.S. I wasn't expecting to "man up" quite this quickly, but it seems this site has a way of doing that to you. My **** still won't come in a crate, though....
Now for suggestions on cables and the pre-amp I should have bought....UNIVERA

Oh, yea, last coincidence. Paul, the Ebay seller, got excited when I mentioned running the SRS's with his gear as he desired to own a pair. I told him to check out this site and all the great people and then found he was a member. Joined only a few months back. Smooth indeed...

Yes, indeed. I'm not sure my Hold Everything rack will support all the weight. The top shelf is rated for 50 lbs, the others far less. Great looking piece, but they use thin, tubular bars for supports. I guess it wasn't designed with the idea of "real" gear in mind. Guess I better sell off my stuff......and keep the rack. I dropped my other nut unloading the second amp but unfortunately, there is bad news. The left, facing, front, corner is dinged in pretty good. Ruined? No. Noticeable? Yes. Definitely not repairable. I see an obvious impact where the box hit and the corner poked right out as there is a hole. The padding could have easily slipped out of place and allowed this to get impacted and shifted as the padding was not a solid barrier around the sides as it was on the bottom. Those pieces of carboard could have easily moved in place and likely did. Needless to say, not thrilled. With all due respect, these things need to be packed in much larger boxes with full padding on all sides. I'm not sure UPS will find in our favor.
The power button also sticks in and won't come back out. Although I haven't powered up either unit, George's goes in and out with no problem. This was an undisclosed, smoker owned piece. Nicotine can do a number to moving parts.
Hope we can resolve this. I was hoping for a better result. Also would have liked to known this was a smoker owned unit, although I didn't ask. Never really crossed my mind. Nicotine stains are clearly seen and felt on the heatsinks and I knew as soon as I opened the box from the odor.
I'm posting via the forum in hopes there will be suggestions from other members, i.e. how to deal with cleaning the gunk that is surely inside the unit and dealing with UPS. No matter what I do, I am either stuck with a permanently damaged item or having to hunt for another SE amp which isn't in high supply.
This wasn't what I expected or hoped for. I just think this is a good opportunity for people to really think about packing and going the extra mile when shipping $750.00 and more items. $500.00, whatever. It is imperative to use "over the top" packing. When you're talking serious, hard earned money, things should be packed to survive a war, especially heavy **** pieces of gear that make a drop even more impactful. Even my Nad CD player I just purchased had the corner cracked and it was packed in the original box and materials.
And, I'm venting as this has sucked the wind out of my sails a bit. This is my first foray into real hi-fi gear and I think the chances of getting a new front fascia are slim and none. The nicotine gunk inside (and out) itself has me less than thrilled without the damage and the stuck button. That goes beyond needing a little dustoff as one would expect. I am sure some will say it won't affect performance, but I doubt any non-smoker laying out serious cash would want a unit with the internals coated in nicotine and tar.
Smokers will likely disagree, but to a non-smoker, this is a big deal. And, I feel when one is dealing with high end items this is something that should be disclosed. Again, I am posting this publicly so that we can all learn and ask questions ahead of time. I'm not trying to fault the seller who I believe had good intentions.
I am curious if others that are Non-smokers feel that mentioning it has been exposed to smoke and nicotine/tar is important to them or whether it affects performance. No doubt moving parts such as knobs, etc can be affected. I am betting that is what is f-ing up my power knob. I'd rather it be puffed up with pot smoke. That way, when I played my tunes, they would have a more 3 dimensional effect!:D
I also want other members to realize that things need to be packed to the hilt in boxes much larger than the piece, whether it is glass or a super heavy piece of gear. People with little packing and shipping experience just don't understand what it takes to properly pack considering the way those **** at the Post or UPS toss boxes around. I have packed hundreds of boxes in my Ebay sales and had maybe one or two damaged because I pack them to survive. Anyhow, I'm drinking my gin and tonic and I'm feeling better already. Thanks, and hope you understand my public post. Had to get this out as this really sucks. I know the seller is a quality person and didn't intend for this to happen. I really don't want this tied up for a month with UPS and a likely losing battle. So far, "My plan ain't coming together." I fear this **** is going to drag on. Peace.UNIVERA

your right ..smokers don't realize it. The one thing that never occured to me, but I definetely could have cleaned up the amp. I do disagree on packing
with oversized boxes. I've never bought any new piece of electronic gear in an oversized box. In fact it usually take two to get whatever the piece is out. One to hold the item and one to pull the box. Lee sent me a nice picture of the chunk broken off of the top left corner. This amp was in the same size box it came in originally the fact is UPS simply dropped it, or ran into a brick wall hard. I kept pictures of every step of boxing it up and even had markings this end up and fragile all over, which the amp is not fragile it took a pretty good blow to break that corner, but Lee and I have been talking and UPS was coming out to get it I believe. We will get it worked out.faster100 wrote:I'm a non smoker, but i think people who smoke don't even realize to mention it, however i agree it should be disclosed openly.. and i wouldnt be happy to receive such a piece of gear all stained and sticky from cigs..

All is well and will be well. SF does not have any extra front facias, so this will have to remain dinged. Paul, the seller, has been nothing but accomodating. My rant was more of a general rant and initial shock/disappointment. Amp isn't ruined, just a bit permanently injured. Will only affect resale, not sound, as long as the power button can be rendered effective.UNIVERA
