I'm still on the never ending search to narrow and pick a 40" lcd tv. I found a site on line that is a couple hundred dollars cheaper than other sites. Naturally, I am skeptical and concerned about sending $2,000 or more to an internet based site. They are $500.00 below Tweeter's "sale" price on the Sony KDL-V40XBR1 I am looking at. Just curious if anyone has experience with these New York based outfits. Also curious if only one HDMI connection is something I might regret down the line.

If you're looking to buy online, call the brand manufacturer and ask if their warranty will still be honored if you buy from an Online Dealer. Many brands, such as LG, will tell you that buying online will void your warranty. Others will require you to have a receipt of purchase listing the serial number of the TV (something online dealers will never do). Now if you're in the US manufacturers are required by law to service your TV, but they're gonna make you hire a lawyer first.

and like Wall Street said, if it don't feel right, it aint.

depending on the brand, make sure the online retailer is an authorized dealer

New York based internet TV retailers:

    AVOID AVOID AVOID...

Trust me, about 90% of them are SHADY. They try to make you buy all kinds of "options" (like the remote), and if you don't they cancel your order (but tie up the credit for another week or two)

    Same thing goes for cameras.

So google the name of the seller and unless they've got a pristine reputation, it's not worth the cash.

Some are okay, but I am leary of most. If its just a few bucks, don't do it. If you don't feel right about it, wait until the prices come down or wait until you have some more scratch saved up.

The 40XBR1 is discontinued so you should see rapid price drops on it soon. I'd hold off.

I purchased a big screen TV online from Montana. Hated the TV and had to send it back. Big wast of time and $$$. Buy local if it's something difficult to send back. Only one HDMI? IMHO that's a problem unless you plan on purchasing a new AVR that has HDMI imputs. Two HDMI is the minimum you should have for everything that's currently available: DVD, HD-DVD, BRD, DireTV, Dish Network, Digital Cable, etc.

    Good luck :)

Local B&M will more than likely do price protection too.
