was just wondering if a Rotel amp is better then a outlaw? I have a chance to get a rotel amp and send back my outlaw under the 30 day return policy..

It would be a RMB1075 and RMB 1080 for mains.. would i gain anything from this change.. I know the rotel gear is tops.. but the outlaw amp is nice also.. I would however gain 110 watts for the mains, 300 versus 190 and 200 x5 for the rest... versus 190, which i know isnt much more for them..
MY HT RIG:
Sherwood p-965
Sherwood sd871 dvd

if you had the bigger outlaw, I would say you probably wouldnt get much more out of it, but you have the outlaw thats 125x7 into 8ohms and 200 into 4 right? then if your budget will bear it, I really think your LSi's will love those Rotels more.

if you got the smaller outlaw, I say full speed ahead!! your LSi's will crave that power.

Gaining 110watts for your mains sounds like a deal worth doing.

In theory all amps are suppose to do the same thing, amplify the sound and not color it. So the more amplification, the better amp given all other things are equal. I think both the outlaw and the rotel do a good job of not coloring the sound, so pick the one with more amplification.

I didn't care for the Rotel amp I listened to, but it's been a while.

    Stick with the Outlaw.

Well, I've never heard the Rotel amps but I sure as hell can speak of the 7700 Outlaw, one word, "UN-FREAKING-BELIEVABLE". This amp has brought new life into my RTi's. My H/T room has never sounded as good as it does know. Highs are much clearer, bass is much tighter and 2-channel, which I never really listened too, was swaping cd's all day yesterday.

well this is essentially a 200 watt amp.. its 190 @ 4 ohms.. The 300 watt outlaw is way to much money at 2100 bucks.. this upgrade to the rotels would be around 400 more then my current outlaw. and i would gain 100 watts on the mains amp..

But then it would be 2 amps, instead of everything in one nice neat box..
I was putting it to the outlaw on music the other night and paired with the sherwood, 2 channel and even multi channel never sounded this good in my HT..

and the rotel amps are used, hence the saving from just getting a bigger outlaw amp which is out of the question now..

I love the sound of the outlaw and the size... I just figured Rotel was of higher qaulity amd was a good knab and a slight upgrade.. wish it was a 7 channel amp and i wouldnt be debating it as much..

Thanks for all the opinions, and it seems about 50/50 on which is better./.

Be careful. There is no cure once you get that glazed over upgrade look in your eyes. Just keep the Outlaw and save the pennies for down the road. The biggest difference for me (and I know one or two others here) with the LSis was the Earthquake amp. Even a 3 channel up front with some Outlaw Monos for surround duty will really be sweet.

Yes. You know I work so hard at a stressful job and I really have no other vices. I have friends that spend $500.00 on purses, shoes etc.--- granted I have them beat in the spending category but now I will say the obligatory " I am done now for a while' :p .

I love it Anthony! It has given me another jump in clarity that I didn't know existed, but I had to really pay attention to it to pick it up. My FXi3's don't mind having the extra power either!

I simply lucked out by getting such a powerful amp that I could physically manage to power all of my speakers.

Maybe one of you audio gurus can explain to me how Carver could pack so much power into an amp that only weighs 43lbs! The lightest conventional 5 channel amp I've come across started at 69lbs & went up from there!

    My 2 cents.

Faster, it really all depends on you and what you are listening for. HT or stereo. Having heard most of the amps and owning a few, for 2 channel I would choose the Rotel. For HT, if the room is large and the speakers more bass capable, the Outlaw.

While I love Outlaw the company and service and I think the gear is very good, they tend to be on the neutral side. This is not a bad thing as it will not "color the music", but at the same time I find it a bit sterile for music. I bought 5 Outlaw M200 mono's to run my original Polk system. Excellent for HT, but I wanted more for 2 channel. I sold 4 of the amps and now have one for center duty only along with my 950. Outlaw the company, was never really on the 2 channel side of the business. All their amps are 5 or 7 channel, or the mono. They just released their 2 channel receiver last year and I have not heard it yet. But no 2 channel amp only.

Please note that I am not knocking Outlaw, I will always support them. I have spent many hours on the phone with Scott at Outlaw chewing the fat. I feel their strength is in HT.

Rotel tends to be on the warm side of neutral. With a softness that mates well with most speakers. Rotel is owned by the same parent company as B&W and Classe. 2 channel is their bread and butter.

Dont do it just for the watt difference. Listen more for the 2 amps signiture sounds and differences. I prefer my 60 watt Adcom in 2 channel to my 200 watt Outlaw and 80 watt H/K I had.

Hey Anthony, do you still have the CS350 I sold you a few years ago?
