Ok...I got rid of some gear and I am staying put so with what do I replace the gear I sold ? I am glad you asked.....:p

My Samsung HLR5688 "Kirk' set is being replaced by a Samsung (I know:eek: but that's what my calibrator said was the best right now) HLS6187 1080p 61 inch DLP. (pic1) supporting that will be my new HT cabinet from Salamander Designs (pic2). That is a really cool company . You can just custom design your HT or audio cabinet on line and place the order locally. It is going to replace my standing equipment cabinet and really free up the front stage with the horizontal design.
I am also going to be either selling or moving to the bedroom my Von Schweikert mini sub. Although an excellent sub, I decided to get another SVS sub that would better match the power and range of my Ultra/2 with an ......wait for it.......
SVS PB12 Plus/2 with the new drivers.(pic3)I spoke to Eric? at SVS and he told me that with the new drivers the Plus/2 was almost up to the Ultra. Wish I had known that 9 months ago.

And to replace my beloved Sherwood Newcastle P-965..?
An Anthem Statement D2 (pic 4)Ta Da!:p
Why not? :D

I should have everything and up and running in three weeks or so.

Congrats on the upgrades. Please describe the differences you saw between your uncalibrated and calibrated picture quality. Did you use a calibration DVD (Avia etc.) prior to the professional calibration?

Eliab said that the 6188 was the best set he has calibrated (I got the 6187). He told me the 6187 was just as good with the exception of a tweak to the overscan in the service menu (and it's was cheaper:) ).

As far as a difference on my old set there was a marked improvement. I have not received this one yet and it won't be calibrated until November-ish.

    So let me understand this...

You were fighting with your significant other to the point of paying for lawyers to determine how to liquidate your house fairly. In the middle of this relationship in turmoil, you have paid counselors to attempt to appease the abusive behavior towards you. This situation caused you to pack (protect?) up your HT system including even having to sell off certain pieces of it.

In the middle of all that, you purchased a new TV, subwoofer, and pre-pro??!!

*wipes a tear from his eye* Darla... you are my HERO!

EFF YEAH!!!! HA. What the Hell. :D:D

It seems that we had some serious miscommunications going on ...and perhaps there was some overreacting on my part I admit. She and I actually had our eyes opened and if it still does not work out (we said we would see where we are in a year) I will take all my cool crap with me.

I told her I was scared she was going to break my crap at the counselors and she told me she would never do that and seemed genuinely surprised that I would think that she would. Things are not perfect and we will have to work on it but I learned that I have a tendency to run from things rather than face them So...... we have a legal contract in the works and counseling once a week. The bottom line is you know....that love thing I guess.

Also ...you may recall a few months back I posted about a penny stock.. RSMI?. That's my HT play stock and I sold it at .23 :D

It also helps that I am more than slightly crazy.:p

How much are those Sonys going to be when they come out? I got such a good recommendation by Eliab on the Sammy. He said that after calibration they are spectacular.

That is just too much for me to spend on a display. I got my HLS6187 for $2600 and it accepts 1080p and was highly recommended by someone who works on all tvs regularly. Feedback so far is that the calibrated PQ is awesome. I am sure the new Sony will be terrific though but I would rather put the crazy money into the audio side...at least until someday I do the dedicated HT and get into projectors.

I spoke with Ethan yesterday at Real Traps (super nice guy) and he went over my room and suggested some bass traps and their placement.I ordered 5 mini traps. They should be fun to hang!:p I am excited to see how much they affect the room.

Well Sony is always one of the more expensive ones, but MSRP is always too high usually can take 500-1000 off in 2 weeks of the really high stuff. depending on size. the a2000 is a step down from the xbr but i bet it'll still compete with the samsung. I just can't agree with samsung's dlp. I haven't seen yours but maybe its better.

    Good luck,

After hearing the D1 I don't see why I would ever need a two channel set up. It sounds truly excellent.

I got the Samsung yesterday. It was delivered when I was at work and I came home last night excited to turn it on AND......the picture is awesome!:D BUT....there is an extremely loud 'grinding' noise coming from the back of the set. It sounds kind of like when a computer is processing something but overbearingly loud. I called Samsung and played it for them and they could not believe the set was making the noise. They had to give me a service appointment for Monday. I just have to laugh. :D

I just got the plugged the D2 into the Sammy with the Gennum scaler that is in the D2 . WOWEE!! What a PQ!:D I can't wait to get this all set up and get rid of the 'grating noise'. My set also had smudges on the screen which has been notoriously reported. i was hoping I would not get that but I did. It's a good thing the PQ is so spectacular or I would tell them to just dend it back. Oh well. No worries. It will all get fixed.

I just got off the phone with Brandsmart . It pays to be a POPO sometimes. The Mgr wanted to send out a tech but I got him to replace it. "Remember me? I am the police officer that bought the Sammy from Gilbert last week?":p

They are on back order though which may be a good sign because I read that Samsung was fixing some quality control issues with the smudges.

Just a small update: I am still waiting on the HT furniture and new set but I have a pseudo set up with most of the Real Traps in place. I am just running 5.1 but I can not say enough about the difference these traps have made in the room. They have turned an acoustical nightmare into a great sounding room. I should have it all complete by wed or so and I will post new pics.
