LSi's? Where did these come from?....

I stumbled across these the other day. They need some playtime, but I'm finally able to demo some LSi heavyweights in a proper enviroment...moreso, on proper gear.

The Magnepans are gone, and I immediately missed them after these were hooked up, but they sound VERY good for a monkey coffin. I was really suprised at how easy they were to position given my earlier LSi7/9 experience. I was rock solid in 15 minutes...and so was my listening position.

I'm not quite sure where the "LSi's are laid back" comment comes from, beings they are far from laid back. If you want laid back try ADS, Magnepan or Rogers, just to name a quick few.

The imaging is solid and all the important goodies are handled just right. I have always liked the LSi line, but this pair really clinched it for me. Will they stay? Of course not, I'm a Maggie devotee, but it's the best thing I've had since then, hands down.

Audio is subjective, who cares. Just thought I'd add some kudos for an exceptional speaker in my head.

I bet they sound 'decent' with one horsepower per channel (f#$ker).

I'm all about Polk, the whole house rig, and HT rig are a BIG post yet to come. Good on ya Mark, even though they aren't 'perfection' ;).

    Cheers,

I'm quite surprised you didn't care for the lsi7's. To me they are a more audiophile quality speaker. Smooth crossover is what I'm trying to say. So whats next?

MM - I love the LSi7, and simply alluded to the fact it created placement issues. I'm a HUGE bookshelf fan and the LSi7 is in my top 5.

FWIW, I can say, now having a set of these.. My comment on them being laid back comes being used to the rti series speakers and not a whole lot else for HT anyways.. comparatively they are real laid back to me.... I sometimes wonder even though mine are a year old if they are broken in fully... I don't think wingnut used them alot, They have the sound i hear people talk about, when they are new.. seems they wont open up on the top end when turned up.. i mean the bass and mids get louder and the top end just doesnt seem to.. they sound great don't get me wrong, just maybe they need more play time or power i dunno.. they are just laid back on my gear and compared to what i have heard..

kind of reflects my experience. I put alot of weight to ease of placement, and the 15's, especially when I was using them in my 2 channel rig, was a relative cake walk (even compared to the LSi9)

if your bored, and havent done it allready. try spreading them out a bit and go with a slight toe in, I had the best results that way, but thats just me :)

also add that getting a speaker to sound right in my basement is a challenge (had a very hard time with my Carver Amazings). I have worked on the problem since (still in progress), but found that getting the LSi to sound right was by far the easiest task out of any speaker I have owned to date. like I said above, that goes along way with me.

my LSi's are currently pulling there duty in my thetaer quite admirable, and 2 channel performance out of my theater has never been more enjoyable than with the LSi15's

Didn’t mean to bust on this thread. Just ordered a pair of Lsi15’s. Will my Parasaund HCA-1500A 205 wpc into 8ohms 325 wpc into 4ohms be able to drive these puppies?….and would there by much of a difference if I would get a pair of Outlaw M2200’s? Any thought?

Compared to my RTi speakers and Klipsch, I find the sound of my LSi9 to be laid back.

Very cool rig, Doro. Are those pads underneath your gear made to reduce vibrations?

It should without a problem. I have Aragon 2004, 100W@8 and 200W@4, and my 15's are getting all the power they need.

I have 7's all around in my HT and for music they are much harder to setup than 15's. They still sound great for most music but some of the lower mid-range is quite bad, especially with newer dance music.

Totally take the parasound over the Outlaws...

Toe in: I needed it, too. Also, try to get them off the back wall as much as possible. No tilt up here, but I think the 25's are a hair taller than the 15's.

Edit: yep, four inches taller. Funny how that actually makes a difference.

Play with placement and maybe even try bi-wiring just to see if you hear a difference. I would be very surprized if after a year in WingNuts home theater they weren't well broken in.

Doro - what do you think of the 15's compared to the 7's? I always thought they work together VERY well. Oddly enough - I thought they sounded better together than the 9's and 15's did (for multi channel). Don't know why.

    Doro,

Out of curiosity, what is that thing ontop of your system that is spitting out that blue spaghetti? And why do you have it up there?

If your wife is allowing that thing to sit up there, I am beginning to understand why she would like the black over the very smooth sounding cherry.

I used to have a pair of Rogers Ls 35a's so I know what you mean about laid back, I don't find my 15's laid back sounding. They can handle being seperated quite far apart and respond real well to moderate toe in.
