Wallstreet, there's no doubt that Classe makes nice stuff.
However, IMO, one of the biggest differences between a 2 channel and a multi-channel amp is it's power supply. Space limits how much meat one can put in a multi-channel's chassis, so compromises must be made and it's those compromises that reduce sound quality.Political Correctness'.........defined

F1 says it right... it's a question of space (single chassis), power supply being shared or not - in addition to the whether each channel has it's own toroid and power supply, etc. As said by F1, sacrifices are made.Magico M2, JL113v2x2, EMM, ARC Ref 10 Line, ARC Ref 10 Phono, VPIx2, Lyra Etna, Airtight Opus1, Boulder, AQ Wel&Wild, SRA Scuttle Rack, BlueSound+LPS, Thorens 124DD+124SPU, Sennheiser, Metaxas R2R -
Sean,
Don't give Joey's GF a ring just yet. Wait for him to get his Plinius amp first:D.
Joey,
Damn dude! Got anymore pics? That should go to the tasteful babe thread! -
You can't get everything. I want the girl on the left and some of his IC's.

Well, I only want one of them. My brain would blow up like a Sony receiver driving a pair of LSi if I had more than one. -

Within the next 5-10 years you'll be lucky to see a high end dealer within 100miles of you, unless perhaps you live in a larger market such as New York, LA or Chicago.
The Best Buy's and Circuit City's of the world have weeded the small man that offered friendly service and good product. The Big Boy's want to carry the "hot" items which is then eventually brought in, causing the small man to drop the line entirely, then eventually shutting down. Soon however; usually within 5 years, the electronic's maker is stuck with the Big man (because he helped kill the small guy) and the products are reduced to flyer specials, pushing the manufacturers to bow to every command the Big Box store wields. This has killed many a manufacturer. Not to mention the entire independant market in the United States. Most small guys have moved onto Custom Install. Or shifted their business to high-mid end home theatre.
is this why vintage audio seems to be in such high demand ? -

wallstreet wrote:I wholeheartedly agree. Which just so happens goes to my previous comment about monoblocks.
I know where you're going, but don't fully agree. Take an amp like the BAT VK-500, a killer amp by anyone's standards. It's a single chassis, dual mono that if cut in half would still work. There are a great many of other single chassis amps like it with massive power supplies, so the only real advantage to mono blocks MAY be channel separation.Political Correctness'.........defined

When your dealing with products at this level, the differences are very, very subtle. That said, if my goal is to build a killer 2 ch system, I'm buying 2 mono's period.

I'm not so sure Mono's would give you any better sound, keeping in mind you've got to now cope with interconnects. I'm still of the mind that an Intergrated amp could be the way to go. Cost aside, I think multi channel is really the way audio should be headed. I don't think the 4 ears theory holds water anymore, there is alot ot be said for a system that can put you in the middle. As good as two channel is, I think the realistic approach to reproducing sound if not music is through the use of multi channel. I have not the space nor the money, but if I did, I'd listen to this system to use as a reference...

Lush,
Great Revels in that pic... dual DD18s... wow.... and a nice listening chair.
Methinks the chair is what gives away the true audiophile.. I mean, you can pamper the ear, but you gotta also pamper the a$$.
What a nice system. A little nearfield, but nice.
I truly hope 2ch doesnt die. And I know it wont.
Why? Because everyone is anal about having less than more. Not all can afford multi-speaker setups and more people have radios and 2 speaker stereos than multichannel setups (even including HTiB). Recording studios are always going to record for the masses, and the masses dont have the luxury or space for HTiB listening much less $5000+ multichannel setups.
Anyway, regarding Monos, I'm sure it makes a difference, but not that much nor should it be the make-it or break-it aspect of a speaker purchase. A lot more makes an amp an "AMP" aside from putting it in 2 separate chassis.
