Denon 3910 Over Heating Prob

Hi Their, I have a Denon 3910 that I think may be suffering over heating problems.

I also have a Denon 3805 as well. I do not have the system placed on a rack at the moment but I am saving for one.

I do have ClearLight audio RDC1 feet to serrate all the equipment at the moment...

I have the 3805 at the bottom and the 3910 on top and then my Arcam CD93T after that, I do leave the amp on all the time but I do not leave the 3910 on at all only in standby.
The problem that I have is which has become more of an issue lately and it may be also that we are having a great summer at the moment and my bedroom gets hot but I do make sure that the curtains are closed all day so the sun does not shine on the equipment but the amp seem fine on all this .

As an example I played a SACD last night and switched on the 3910 from cold and left it for 45mins to warm up before use then I played the SACD and played perfectly ... then I wanted to play another one and the player did not want no know the display kept saying 0000 all the time, I switched of the player for a min or so and tried again but the same thing keeps on happening ... I put in a normal film DVD and it plays ok. So I switched of the unit for 10min...

Came back later switch the unit back on again tried a SACD and works perfectly...

The bottom of the DVD player does feel quite hot after play.. Are these unit sensitive to heat after a while is it the heat from the amp that is casing the DVD player getting to hot???

Does any one out there have any ideas on this matter ... Normally the units works fine but this is a little silly I really want to sort this out asap as I do not want to damage the equipment and this player cost me a lot of money .

Any help would be fully appreciated :(

First off the DVD player doesn't require any warm up to play. I would get a Elan Zfan. Gear doesn't like to run overly hot.

I have Installed that player hundreds of times with no overheating issues but They always sit on there own shelf, plenty of air and not in very hot rooms. All my customers had air conditioning so heat in the room was never an issue.

I suggest at least a window air conditioning unit to cool the room down. That should help as well as picking up the Elan Z fan.

    Good luck

If I remember correctly, you leave your 3805 on during the day. If the 3805 runs reasonably warm, then it may be causing damage to your 3910. At this point, this pure speculation.

My suggestion would be to separate the two pieces of equipment. This will allow the 3805 to breath a little bit, and you can test the 3910 to see if the heat was the problem. Hope it was not damaged permanently.

Heat soak. It's not a good idea to place anything on top of an AVR or Amplifier. You simply do not have enough space between those components regardless of the use of additional "feet".

I think the ZFan is a little much as a suggestion but the window AC isn't off base. If you can afford that gear, you can afford a modest AC unit.

In the interim, pick up a cheap clip-on fan from a hardware store perhaps and use it to blow air into that area and across the gear. A box fan for the room would help circulate some air if AC is not an option.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Your receiver generates alot of heat and anything placed above it is going to get hot. If I'm reading your post correctly your CD/DVD player is placed on top of the receiver...yeah, it's going to get hot.

Seperate the components and see if the problem goes away before buying any fans.

Put the 3910 on the bottom, AVR on top. Problem solved.

There is no need to leave your receiver on all the time. When you turn it off it goes into standby mode.

So turn it off when not in use, but most importantly DO NOT put anything on top of it!

A clip on fan should hook you up as the others have said, and seperate your components, you might expericene a thermal meltdown in there guy. Just kidding. I was worried about heat issues with my amps due to them being stacked but with proper ventalation they are running fine since day 1 of installation. But some sort of rack should help you out as well.
