I could be wrong as well but when I play an HD DVD in my Toshiba and you press the audio button on the remote the it says DD + on the screen and every thing works like it should through the 5.1 analog outputs, I'm pretty sure that Ron-P will say this is true also. The manual does say that it does not support full DTS HD only DTS core

Yes, HD-A1 (which I also have) does pass DD+ with the analogs, but I remember reading no analog outputs for DTrueHD and DTS-HD. I can't find it anymore on the net, could have just been a misunderstanding from my part.

Well, been doing some thinking this weekend, I know, can't be good. Anyways, I think what I'm going to do as hard as it may be is, when I receive the 990/7700 combo, just add the 7700 to my current setup and run that way for a while, with the 3805 as my pre/pro. This way I can get a general feel for how much of an improvement the 990 did/did not make. There seems to be alot of questions running around as to how much of an improvement a dedicated pre/pro makes so I figured what better time to do a side by side compairson. What do you guys/gals think?

experimenting is a good thing, by the way the HD A1 is an awesome player and does
a great job at upconverting SD DVDs.

This would be outstanding! I also have a Denon acting as a prepro & I would really like to know if it would really be worth spending the extra $ to go total separates. If I was starting from scratch I would go total separates, but since I'm not I really have to consider this closely.

While my Sunfire amp has definately added more clarity & better instrument separation, it has been a very subtle improvement. I have had to listen very carefully to my music to pick up the difference.

IMO a good 200 wpc amp is sufficient for all duties for anyone just starting out. At least for me it is still the most significant jump that I have made.

I would really be interested in reading your results Grim!
