you didn't see the original message, it was edited and I'm sure people are appreciative.

I understand why people like CRT HD. It is a great picture. But for alot of people who want larger screens (50"+), its irrelevant to the conversation. Everyone has their personal preferences and the comments following his were just indicative of the general thought that it is useless to post condescending remarks about someone's choice that doesn't agree with yours. Everyone has different priorities so while one technology is perfect for one, it may be a bad choice for someone else.

For me personally a top priority is viewing angle, which rules out alot of the plasma competition.

    yeah, again sorry about that:)

Exactly another reason why I don't like LCD. When you look at an angle, all of your blacks on the screen turn into a blueish color from the backlight. It is harder to notice with more expensive models though...

samsung has a good idea with their slim design tubes, but they still don't have the picture quality of a sony tube...

If I was to buy a tv above 34", it would either be the sony sxrd (xbr) or the Pioneer plasma (I'm not sure about the new model since CC doesn't carry them anymore, but the old pioneer was a beauty).

I don't know how much the warranty was, but $2400 seems a bit steep for only a 40" display.......(and technically, you can't say "Priceless" after you've just typed out the price)... :D

The total price includes the warranty, tax, shipping, etc. So, the 40" is much less than $2,400.00, genius.

    Lose the attitude newbie......

You can get a 42" plasma for $1200ish, so if you spent almost double after tax, shipping, warranty, extras etc, then you got ripped IMO. Congrats on your purchase.

Both of the above are excellent choices. Not sure the new Pioneer is out yet, but they are fantastic plasmas.

The new non-Elite 50" and below are out. I'm still waiting to see the 60" in person, I think that will be the one that I buy.

I too have a Sony Trinitron 32" and a Panasonic 40" Plasma. I think the HD on the Plasma is just breath taking, the blacks are BLACK. And BTW I don't like watching the Sony any longer.

well, here is my ranking on tvs(in HD)...

    1. CRT-
Pros: best viewing angle, best contrast ratio, most natural picture.
Cons: very heavy, very big compared to newer tech, no bigger than 34 HD, being phased out (damn you sony:mad: )

    2. plasmas-
Pros:viewing angle of tubes, closest contrast to tubes, can be hung on the wall.
Cons: heavier than lcds, smallest plasma is 37", questions about plasmas life-expectancy.

    3.SXRD-
pros- big improvement in contrast over LCD, less of a screen door effect.
cons- viewing angle, not able to do true 1080P (yet), still need to pay for that damn bulb.

    4. CRT Projection-
Pros: same as tube except can go above 34"
Cons: same as tube except the viewing angle is terrible, and get the automatic convergance;)
    4. DLP-
Pros- slim and light, better contrast than lcds, less screen door effect. viewing angle better than crt projections.
Cons- color wheel( I think the new samsungs don't have color wheels but I'm not sure). rainbow effect which I never seen before but..:) pay for new bulb

    5.LCD-
Pros- very light, hang up on the wall, vibrant colors, higher resolution then most tubes and plasmas
Cons: bad contrast, less than impressive viewing angle.
    6.LCD projection-
Pros: slim design, more rich colors like lcd
Cons: screen door effect, screen door effect, bad contrast, viewing angle like the dlp and sxrd. have to pay for new bulb just like dlp

    ok, done.

Eeek! I had missed your question. Sorry.

The CRT TV is the Sony FD Trinitron Wega set. It's native resolution is only 480i. Here is a link to it if you need more information (and I happen to miss the question...hehe).
