Thank You for your help I am suprised though as the M70's look superior spec wise and they have 4 woofers. What makes the RTi8 that much better, I realize its better parts but I figure with the multiple woofers the sound quality would be superior in the M70

I bought Monitor 70's as my first Polk Floorstanding speaker 2 years ago and my ears buds are ready to upgrade to the Rti series. If you can start out with Rti's you'll be one step ahead of the game. The specs indicate that the Rti8 delivers a frequency of 30hz-27khz and the 70's go from 30hz-25khz. That means that you will get a wider range with the Rti vs. the monitor 70's. Consider getting a sub as well to open up more of the low end, if you don't have one already.;)

Thank You for that these will be my first Polks and my first HT for that matter, I was really leaning towards the Monitor 70's but now you got me thinking. I was wondering if you would mind recommending a recievcer, I was looking at the Pioneer VSX 1016, would this be sufficent to push either the M70's or the RTi8 in a HT setup?

That's a negative good buddy. At least, no where near their potential imho.

Any good solid 5 channel amp. I really like Rotel's gear. Theyve got some of the best stuff around for the money.

+1 to the RTi8's. Careful about falling into the misconception that "more is merrier". Some of the best speakers I've ever heard have had only one driver in them. If you really want the subsonics (which I assume you will with ht), look at grabbing an entry level SVS subwoofer and leave your mains to midbass and above.

He'll still need a pre / pro. What's your budget? You may want to consider a receiver from Outlaw Audio

I prefer Parasound. Not dissing Rotel. Just a personal preference on mid-fi gear.

I would say Parasound is a notch above Rotel.

I'm not too familiar with parasound products, exception being the P/HP-850 which I love.

Seems to be a good deal for your entrance. You can buy remotes direct from most manu's for around $20 or so.

Thank you everybody, Halo I was actually looking at getting an entry level SVS but would I still need a pre / pro amp. Could I not run the RTi8 and a SVS sub from just a 5 channel reciever?

You can find some nice refurbed Harman Kardon receivers on Ebay. These are factory direct.

I run my 8's off my HK for now. I am in the slow process of saving up for a 3-5ch amp. I enjoy them with the HK alone but think I will enjoy them more so with the amp.

This is mostly for an HT set up, right? If your going to have an SVS to handle the bottom end you could free up some cash by purchasing a pair of RTi6's instead. A 5 or 7 channel receiver/pre/pro will handle the RTi6's and later, when your budget allows for it, you can get the RTi8's and move the RTi6's to be the surrounds. ;)
