?'s About Programming Universal Remote MX-900

I've programmed close to 30 Harmony remote controls for people, but this is my first Universal Remote Control.

Since I've become a B&K dealer, I am trying to learn how to program this brand. I started with the 900 because I can integrate it into one of my demo systems.

After several hours of messing with it, I haven't gained very much. So far, compared to the Harmony remotes, the learning curve is a little steeper.

I would like to set up macros, but I haven't figured out which steps to actually go through to get this done. I think I've got my components input right, however, I don't know how to integrate them with different activities-again, dealing with macros.

I know Dan has a lot of experience with these, so I'm hoping he chimes in, and I'd like other help if anyone has advice to give. Is there a good website, other than the manufacturer's site that can help me?

I'm hoping to get it up and running by the weekend, so I've got a little time, but I'd still like to get it done.

Dan will chime in soon, I am sure. I have MX700, came with B&K REF50S2. I did program the macro at one time (I had REF50 before), works great, mainly for on/off DVD play, etc. I went through several iterations of programming the macro, eventually got too lazy to maintain it, especially with gear changes/upgrade.

Universals remotes are the easiest in my opnion remotes to program. But you have to know the system well in order to know how to program a macro.

First off lets talk about DVD. Macro string will look lke this and this depends on the brands due to different timing.

1) Discrete Power on for Tv
1 second delay
2) Discrete Power on for Pre or receiver
3 seconds delay
3)discrete DVD ON
1 second delay
4)pre or receiver switch to DVD
1 second delay
5)Tv switch to Input 5(or whatever DVD is on)

Thats a basic maco for DVD using a Denon DVD3910 and a Denon AVR4806 reveiver connected to a Sony LCD TV. Each Device needs a certain amount of time to change inputs. The Denon receivers take about 4 seconds and the Sony Tv about 6 to 7 seconds.

In the Mx900 if you look at all the buttons, you will find ON and OFF not linked to the actual on and off buttons.These are called Discrete codes. They can turn on or off a devise On no matter how many times you press it, and same with off. A toggle command is a command that works both ways. It's a power button. On and off with the same code. These codes need to be "sinked" in order to work correctly.

I can sit here and type forever on teaching how to program a Mx series remote. Once you learn one of them , the rest are easy. They all share the same structure. The Mx3000 is a little different.

I'll probably be emailing you later today if I can't figure it out. I believe you that they should be easy to program, as the software really isn't that complicated. Since this is my first go round with them, I'm still working out the kinks.
