A lot of people seem to run that (^^) in conjunction with Spybot Search & Destroy. You can download that at their website here.

Just scroll down and download it. Donations are optional.

Both are very good and should help in getting rid of the spyware. You might have to run each 2 or 3 times to get rid of it all

Agreed with the above postings. Also, if you're using IE, stop. Use Firefox. You'll never see a popup again.

Make sure you run both programs in Windows "Safe Mode". Otherwise, it may not find everything.

If, for some reason, that does not get rid of the Spyware, install HiJackThis and post the log here so we can figure out how to manually remove the offender :)

I had never heard that before. Thanks for the tip. How do you switch to safe mode? It usually happens when I screw up and shut down improperly.

It'll find everything no matter which mode it's in. It just may have problems removing the Spyware if you're not in safe mode as more of the operating system is running.

Press F8 during boot and it'll give you the option (before the Windows loading screen).

Word of Caution regarding Spyware S&D: If you aren't careful, it can completely jack your computer up. It will search and destroy WAY more than just spyware. You might want to place a Restore point before completing the cleaning.

    Good luck :D

Spybot really only had a lot of issues breaking windows on 98 and ME. They have pretty much taken care of that now.

Other programs to consider are: Ewido and Windows Defender.

I was skeptical about Ewido, but was encouraged to use it on machine repairs at the Tech Support desk I work at. It has been fantastic, finds tons of stuff. Windows defender is good in that it will actually find things, and it can be automated to scan every evening and update automatically without you having to remember.

I would go through add/remove programs as beforehand. There are some spyware apps that actually have uninstallers that work. Strange, but it makes things easier.

And whatever you use, dont forget to UPDATE. You wouldn't get half of the stuff out with olders DATS. Good luck.

    Firstly go to this website
    www.majorgeeks.com
Look on the left side of the screen for the alphabetical list of program types.Look for spyware tools. All of the following programs that i will list are free.
You already have the two most popular programs-Spybot search and destroy and Ad-Aware SE.Now look for Microsoft Windows Defender(formerly known as Microsoft Antispy, which they purchased from a company called Giant and it was Known as Giant Antispy)
    Advanced spyware remover
Spywareblaster(this program DOES NOT can for spyware. It puts changes in the windows directory to stop the spyware from downloading in the FIRST PLACE)Spybot Search and Destroy used to recommend it's use in conjunction with it)
SpywareGuard[this is by the same people(javacools) who made SpywareBlaster and it does basically the same thing]

You see the problem with spyware and adware and all of those OTHER malicious software programs out there is this.MICROSOFT WINDOWS INTERNET EXPLORER.

Internet Explorer web browser uses Active X controls as a rendering engine. These controls are NOT SAFE and all of those mailicious software programs out there like spyware and adware(which is the cause of your pop up problem)trojan horses tracking cookies and such.Use these active X controls to sneak into your computer without your knowlege or permission and RIGHT PAST YOUR FIREWALL.

If you use another web browser such as Mozilla Firefox as mentioned above.Or Netscape which i am sure you have probably heard of.Then most of this problem will be made moot.SInce Firefox is a Netscape compatible web browser and neither of them use active X controls. The malicious software programs will find it harder to get into your computer(although NOT impossible as experience has taught me)Both of these browsers can ALSO be had for free from www.majorgeeks.com

Just remember when it comes to antispy AND antivirus tools YOU MUST HAVE MORE THAN ONE.The reason being they ALL HAVE DIFFERENT BLACKLISTS WHICH MENAS THEY ARE ALL LOOKING FOR DIFFERENT THINGS.One PRIME example was when i went over a coworkers house to clean out his computer. We installed Ad Aware SE and had to run it TWICE because it found over 700 objects!!!!!!!! THEN after that we installed Spybot search and destroy and IT found another 36.THEN we installed Yahoo toolbar with antispy(www.yahoo.com for a free download of this very effective tool)which found another hundred or so.THEN we installed McAfee antivirus, which even though it is an anitvirus tool it ALSO looks for spyware and adware.IT found some more spyware.THEN we installed Advanced spyware remover and IT found some MORE.ALL OF THIS AFTER AD AWARE SE FOUND OVER 700 OBJECTS!!!!!!

Hopefully you see my point. Also you might want to remember that these malicious software programs sneak in during downloads.Even if you are just downloading a new page they come riding in.
Now as for the new web browsers. There is a new beta test version of Windows Internet Explorer available.Internet Explorer 7 which is SUPPOSED to be safer. It will be included in Windows Vista(Microsoft's new operating system which is supposed to debut EVENTUALLY)I have serious doubts about it being safer so far as i have it.It can also be had from www.majorgeeks.com for free.Remember it is a BETA TEST VERSION.Which means it is still having all of the bugs worked out.

As for Netscape and Mozilla Firefox(Mozilla is ALSO a web browser in and of itself as well as being the name of the organization which created Firefox)Firefox is currently the number two web browser behind Internet Explorer at over a hundred million downloads in just under a year)

There IS a SMALL catch to using these(or ANY other web browsers like Opera, compuserve, etc)that is NOT Internet Explorer.Since Microsoft currently controls 90%!!! of WORLDWIDE computer operating systems, and they include Internet Explorer in windows now.Pretty much ALL websites are designed for Internet Explorer since most people around the world use it.If you are going to sucessfully surf the web using Firefox or Netscape then you MUST download plugins for certain popular programs to work properly.Mozilla has a webpage link that will take you to these download sites to get them.

Programs such as Java,Adobe Acrobat Reader,Real Player,Macromedia Flash Player,Windows Media Player and Apple Quick time Player being the most popular. If you already have these programs you STILL need to download the new plug ins for them to work with Firefox.Since what you already have was designed to work with Internet Explorer.YOU ONLY NEED TO DO THIS ONCE.All of the plug ins(except for Windows Media Player)will work with the latest version of Netscape also.Currently there are TWO versions of Firefox available.Firefox 1.5.0.4 and Firefox Bon Echo which is a beta test version.I have both.Netscape is in version 8.1.YES i am a geek i admit.I even built my own computer(the instructions were ALL PICTURES.WOW THAT was difficult)Most of what i am telling you i found out the hard way through experience with my LAST computer.Which was actually my very first. It was taken out by spyware and adware at one point.I am a FAST learner and a good teacher. If you need ANY help with all of the above feel free to private message me(this ALSO applies to anyone else reading these posts)and i will be happy to walk you through it all.If you have Instant messenger capabilities it would make it MUCH easier.By the way the more popular instant messenger services can ALL be had from www.majorgeeks.com as well and they're F R E E!!!

If you are getting Pop ups ads from spyware doctor then AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAGUE.Pop up ads are caused by ADWARE(unless it is a pop up associated with the website you are on.In which case that is NOT caused by adware. If it is a pop up that has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the site you are on then THAT is caused by adware).SOME antispy programs come with spyware and adware built in.NON of the programs that i told you about have that.ALso if you have ever heard of a program called Kazaa ,which is used for many different things(such as music downloads, web acceleration, etc)THAT is what took out my old comuter.Kazaa is LOADED with spyware DESPITE their dubious claims to the contrary.Aviod IT like the plague as well.

Also if looking around www.majorgeeks.com for WHATEVER type of program since MANY can be had from that site for windows AND MAC.If the program description says"freeware"then it is just that-free.If however it says"shareware" that means you pay for it.Pay close attention to all of the information listed with this stuff as it will make it a LOT easier to understand some things about what you are dealing with.Another one of my favorite cliche's that i made up is as follows."Life is in the details.PAY ATTENTION".

Nope. This(along with several OTHER subjects i've seen on here)happens to be a passion of mine.Once my old computer got taken out by spyware i was forced to learn a LOT and FAST.As well as doling out a large chunk of money to fix it.

    HATED IT!
