For those familiar with my loss of sub-signal problem. Is it possible that the sub Y cables could be defective.

Recap and where I stand today - The only way to get my subwoofer to play is to use the receiver auto setup feature (yamaha - ypao). It identifies the sub, sets main speakers to large and xover at 40hhz. I change the xover to 60 and sub to both to play in 2 channal also.....When I shut down the system for an extended period of time, the sub doesnt play when the system is restarted (have to do the auto setup again).

Both yamaha (after I proved prob not sub) and klipsch (thought possible problem with powered sub amp) were at a lost and both recommended taking in their product for service. Just not being able to let it go, i am out to isolate where the prob is before I take it anywhere.

First elimination - Went out and got another sub (to return of course) :D .. Hooked it up and the same problem (also learned bigger cabinet makes a huge difference). Newer model of same sub, much better sound. Cant buy yet still have not gotten a friggen amp yet :( ......Strike the sub as source of the problem.

That leaves the reciever, maybe something wrong with the sub preout, or some sort of internal short when I shut the receiver down?

While researching interconnect cables for future amp, I started wondering about possible faulty cables. They are cheap radioshack 24K subwoofer Y cable. Is it possible that it needs a big shot of juice from the receiver to kickstart?

You may find additonal help at the Yamaha

A faulty cable would be rare.

Why are you using a Y-Adapter, when you have a sub pre-out? A single cable from that pre-out is fine, as there is rarely a need for a Y adapter at the subwoofer level.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

is your sub just not coming on when you turn on your Yamaha? but how about you raise the volume? Will it kick in then?

some subs need a decent volume level to "turn on".. that's why many people leave their subwoofers in the "on" mode and not the "standby" mode. to me that's what i'm reading from your post. it's just not turning on.

Maybe the Sub output on the receiver isn't active during 2 channel mode. My Onkyo is like that.

I have ripped their site apart trying to find something, also worked with their support, they finally recommended that I take it for service. Frustrating for an 8 month old amp.

Using Y cable because being a total newb, I didnt know and thought I had to have one :o

Now, if i learn how to put multiple quotes in one reply, I'll be doing something. With my luck the last few weeks, may take a few days to figure out. Software analyst by trade...kinda scarey huh LOLOL

**Danger** I keep it plugged in and set to on always, receiver is shutdown through power filter control.

**disneyjoe** I manually set to both so that it plays 2 channel, sounds good when its on
