I'm currently looking at the Line 6 POD 2.0. I am not really interested in the recording capabilities at this point, I just want some cool amp/cab modeling settings to fool around with. Is the Line 6 overkill or not? Any suggestions?

I use a Korg AX1000G modeling processor/pedal board, Boss CE-5 Chorus,Krank Distortus Maximus Distortion, BBE Sonic Maximizer.

The Korg I don't really ever use the amp and cab modeling section.I love the way my amp sound so I put the Korg in the effects loop and use all it's effects like Wah,Chorus,Delay,Phaser,Flanger,Pitch Shifter, etc. The pitch shifter is awesome in it as well as the Reverb. Room reverb is what I like to use alot.

Line 6 makes very nice effects. You can't overkill effects. It's about having flexibility. Like my Distortion Pedal, my amps drive channel is to die for, it's crazy heavy and high gain.I setup my distortion pedal in front of the clean channel to get a different type of drive. So I have 2 different drive tones on call depending on what I'm doing. The Krank pedal is killer in it's own right and if you have a good clean channel like Fender, this pedal can fool you into thinking you have a high gain amp channel. It's almost as good as my drive channel.

I'm always looking at effects. I'll probably upgrade my Korg to the new one in the AX3000G or go with the Vox Toneworks Se board. I like em both but man Boss and Digitech boards are nice to. I'd like to own them all and have mad flexibility.

It would be really good for you, but I prefer seperate pedals and a pedal board. It's just more fun. ;) Delay man, delay.

I'd start with a solid amp/cab setup. Modeling, imo, leaves a lot to be desired. Depending on your style, I could recommend some combo amps, cabs, and/or heads. But if your limited to playing quietly, then modeling might be the only way.

I like using pedals rather than effects processors. I use 1975 mxr Phase90, mxr 1979 phase45, 1979 Boss CE-2, Analog delay AD-9, Digi delay DD-3, and a Boss CS-2 compressor.

He's already got all that. I think he wants to mess around with some effects, which pretty much any guitarist will end up using at some point to attain a certain sound.

The Line 6 is great for that and will do what no amp combo or otherwise can. I've got a TOL Marshall Combo as well as JCM900 amp head and they can't do what the FX pedals and such can do.

I've got a Les Paul, so sometimes I turn the volume down on one pickup and play with the Rhythm/Treble switch to get it to go on and off. That would be an effect wouldnt it?:p

:( I'm poor and guitar pedals are expensive. Plus I don't play it much anymore anyway sooo....

    Hmmmm......

    :D

Hey, BTW I just saw an ad for a Yamaha Eterna EF-15 w/case for $50. This is a 20 yr old guitar, that cost $225 new back then, that's just been sitting in it's case in a closet for 20 yrs. This has got to be worth more than $50 doesn't it (assuming no issues)?

I used to run Boss Phase Shifter, Distortion Pedal, and Stereo Chorus and that was it - pretty flexible but never really got much use from the shifter...
