Bill O'Reilly should be hung and spit upon.

Just when you thought that Bill O'Reilly couldn't possibly get anymore pathetic, enter the "O'Reilly School of Revisionist History" yet again. This past Tuesday while debating General Wesley Clark, an honorable war vet, O'Reilly dropped another bomb; this time accusing US Troops of committing war crimes against THE **** at the battle of Malmedy during WWII!

Even more shocking, this isn't the first time O'Reilly has said this. See October 3, 2005.. and again his debating antagonist was one General Wesley Clark. That's TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS with the same guest -- a highly decorated 4-star general and combat vet. Now more than ever, this behavior qualifies 'Chickenhawk Bill' to a nice warm cup of Shut The **** Up.

I thinking that maybe some of the context of what he said is left out. cant tell from your link though, it looks like the main page and cant find the story, so I'm flying blind. I usually watch O'reilly, but have missed it lately. I think you might want to watch the episode or read the whole transcript before you cast judgement. I dont think MSNBC, i.e. the competition Oreilly smacks like a school **** in the ratings would be fully subjective in reprting exactly what took place

I don't think it would be that suprising. You'd never hear about it without the entrenched reporters with digital media and distribution. Imagine getting into a gunfight and half your buddies are killed, revenge may be tempting.

I cant get the video to pop up, so I really cant see it. Just the wording of the title makes me question the objective reporting of the incident, as opposed to this being Olberman's strong worded opinion.

and in all honesty, Bill oreilly has been far more supportive of the troops across the spectrum that most other pundits I've seen, so this stance seems a little odd to me.

will try to get up the video again

I read the entire transcript. And consequently, Both transcripts, the one from Tuesday and the one from 2005 -both can me found on Foxnews.com, Lexis and Factivia.

(edit) i don't care that he made a mistake the first time. we all make mistakes. But goddamnit when you keep repeating something that is historically inaccurate and instead of apologizing - just throw out excuse after excuse - **** him. My grandfather served and died near the end of WWII and my great Uncle also served and lost a lung while he was a POW for 16months. I never knew either of them.

Ok, O'reilly effed up and Olberman went way overboard. Gotta love someone who to title's the presidents video "Ooooh, a kitty" has the gaul to denounce people for disrespect... Kettle, please meet pot...

And the title of the thread, a bit reactionary? Breathe dude, breathe. The mass media does this crap to the soldiers in Iraq from time to time as well.

    That's it Mike. the "7th O'Reilly" down:

"But I, in, in Mal-, in, IN MALMEDY, as you know, US forces captured SS forces who had their hands in the air, and they were unarmed, and they shot them down. You know that. That's on the record, been documented. In Iwo Jima, the same thing occurred. Japanese attempted to surrender, and they were burned in their caves."

I just tried to go to transcripts at www.foxnews.com- specifically the O'Reilly factor page, and it's down for maintenance. How convenient.

On the following show, on Wednesday, a viewer tried to correct him and O'Reilly claimed that he said "AFTER Malmedy". ****. He said IN MALMEDY! I know this because I actually watched that O'Reilly factor myself.

Piece of **** lying ****, and STILL makes no apology. Yeah that's a patriot for ya..

My main takeawy is O'Reilly needs to get a new research group/fact checker and Olberman needs to learn from John Stewert on how to take a liberal slant and make it seem both funny and sane.

O'Reilly doesn't need a new research group- he needs to man up and **** apologize. He said this 8months ago, no apology. He said again on Tuesday. No apology. He's had all this time to correct it- he never did.

i'm sorry but i don't think there's anything funny about this. Just as I don't think there is anything funny about Michael Moore using injured vets to make a stupid mockumentary.

Exactly, but he tries to make it funny and tries to make it make sense and it the results look more like a jealous twit than anything else. He did no service to the massacred with his take. He should have quietly and solemnly said his point and moved on. Overall, he should take some notes from Stewerts show. He tends to handle these things far more appropriately. Sorry if that doesn't make sense.

Edit: Crap, your editing same time. It is somewhat obvious that nobody has corrected him or his fact checker on this issue. Either that or he is dumber than a hamster. (A definate possibility) He has apologized for misstatements before which was what led me to the conclusion that no one clued in his fact checker. It is possible that one of very few times I've caught part of his show was the one time he apologized, but I do know that he has done it.

Why did he bring it up? Was there a purpose for it? All troops commit crimes during the war and all should be equally punished but that's hard to do if there is no proof and during a war proof and witnesses can be awfully hard to find...

    It is a war.
I do not understand all the problems we have these day with killing the enemy. They want to kill us.
It amazes me that we can expect to send young men into battle and expect them to just quit fighting when the enemy throws up their hands and says "I surrender" meaning I am out of options.
They want us dead and if they can not kill us and know they are doomed then they can just throw up a white flag and we must stop instantly. Not one more shot.
I only imagine how I would handle that and I don't picture it going too good when the guy who just shot my buddy says "I am out of ammo so I quit" F/U, I owe it to my buddy to do the right thing.
Afterwards I have to worry about going to jail for fighting for my country and getting too mentally involved in my work.

I feel for all those who are put in a possition that they have to kill the enemy.

O'Reilly brought it up in order to dress down General Clark's view of making the investigation of the alledged Haditha murders public, and it wasn't the first time..

not only is O'Reilly full of ****, but Fox News is covering for him by doctoring the original transcript. I don't care who you are or what you believe: there is no way in hell you can argue a video FROM Fox, nor a transcript FROM Fox -- yet by some miracle they say two different things. Fantastic journalism guys, and STILL no apology to those who died in Malmady.

is he full of **** or making a factual error? I'm not bustin balls here, I really want to know. was there just no massacre at malmady? is he confusing it with something else, another incident? I cant see him just making it up.

I mean, I'm sure that hapenned somewhere is such a large conflict like WWII. I can see me doing it under duress of having bullets and **** flying past me all day. If I was fighting in WWII, I imagine the conversatgion going something like this.........

    **** - ok Lou, I'm done shooting...I surrender
Lou - oh really? EFF YOU KAblaaaamo!!!!!!.......ok men, who's got the cigars?

if the whole thing in Kaditha hapenned they way they say it did, then its wrong, flat out. but I find myself less able to cast judgement not being under the intense duress those marines face. War is hell, bad things happen. call me kooky, but I blame the scumbag insurgents who do a remarkable job blurring the lines between civilian and combattant better than anyone in history.

It's not killing the enemy that's a problem, it's how it is done. And I don't think the enemy wants to kill you in majority of the wars, it's rather their duty. I'm sure they would rather be safe at home. Guerilla warfare, yes you kind of have a choice but then there is the issue are you a terrorist or a freedom fighter. In WWII the French/Norwegian/etc freedom fighters were terrorists as well but do you blame them really for doing what they did?

Interesting read those transcripts, didn't see much of the massacre in there but it seemed like Clark beat O'Reilly in his own game... Isn't this the guy who thinkgs who speaks the loudest wins the argument? Clark didn't let him take the lead and made excellent counter-arguments. O'Reilly made the correct point that atrocities happen but Clark had the important message that those have not been condoned. That's why it is important it needs to stay that way because that's the only way we can continue to call us the good guys.
