Well, it's all in the title. Who is your favorite actor or actress, and why?

My favorite actor of all time goes to Edward Norton. I don't know what it is about his performances exactly, but I end up loving every movie he is in. I think he plays his roles so well as to make him believable as a person. Some of the movies I liked him the best in are:

Rounders
Fight Club
American History X

I'm looking forward to The Illusionist and Motherless Brooklyn the most.

Runners up would be:

Clint Eastwood
Samual L. Jackson
Brad Pitt (He's a damn good actor...)

    Cool thread!

    Actors:
Cary Grant followed by a close Johnny Depp. Grant was the man! A true ladies man through and through. Two of my favorites, Talk of the Town and Charade. Outstanding acting. Depp has never tackled a job that he didn't convince me with his performance that it was totally real.

He was quite the actor as well. I remember my mom would make us sit down and watch all the old black and white's and get "Cultured" in the films of the past! Sure am glad she did. Don't forget James Stewart, he was up there at the top as well!

James Steward as well. Totally agree.

I can easily watch "To Kill a Mockingbird" once a month.
Other notables include The Omen, Moby Dick, On The Beach & Twelve O’clock High not to mention the westerns he did. I’m a sucker for old flicks.

    Natalie Portman

    Jodie Foster

    Jack Nicholson (although not recently)

    Edward Norton in Primal Fear

    Paul Giamatti in Sideways

Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs

It's too hard to cite just one or two. I mean how many good movies have DeNero, Pacino, Nicholson, Eastwood, been in.

    Might as well add

Johhny Depp for his off the wall roles like Edward Scissorhands, Benny & June, What's Eating Gilbert Grape. And he was fantastic in Pirates of the Carribean.

Gary Oldman in The Professional among others. Benico DelToro for his many varied roles.

Of Course how could I forget my all time favorite.

    Christopher Walken.

    Crap I can't stop

Sean Connery as the one and only James Bond. I enjoyed the hell out of Peter Sellers especially in the first few Pink Panther movies

A little obscure but if your tastes goes beyond the usual supspects among Hollywood actors- than I present Tony Leung Chiu Wai (Hard Boiled, In the Mood for Love, 2046, Infernal Affairs, Hero, etc).

Well praised from around the world-by directors to fans to even Robert Deniro !

Gah, can't believe no one's mentioned my fave, Paul Newman. Cool Hand Luke, The Hustler, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid... and even in his newer movies he's great.

Can't think of an actress at the moment, all I can think of is hot ones.... I wonder why that is....

I dont know if I can narrow it down to one but off the top of my head:

    Gary Oldman
    Morgan Freeman
    Brad Pitt
    Jason Statham
    Jack Nicholson

    Kate Winslet
    Kate Beckinsale
    Jennifer Aniston

These are listed not only for acting talent but also for a "coolness" factor that makes me enjoy watching them.
