"Q: Can you waive the shipping charge?
A: Sorry, the shipping cost is an inherited part of our cost structure, and we have to pass it on to the customers. Some other online store may offer free shipping because those stores ship millions of items and may have huge discount from the delivery companies, and they can absorb the minimal shipping cost. For us this is not currently possible. As we obtain more discount from delivery companies in the future, we will pass on the savings by reducing the shipping charge."
You may be able to get it sooner by picking it up though.
Also it appears they have stock again.

I was also impressed with Oppo's customer service. I got someone on the phone quickly when I called to as some questions. Another nice touch was the inclusion of the HDMI cable with the player.Main theater: Paradigm Studio 100's v4 L/R, CC690 Center, ADP 590 x4 Surrounds. I think your wrong on that, when I bought mine and was looking at shipping options (and corresponding charges) it clearly had local pick up as an option, with 0 as the shipping charge. I think what you quited was to someone asking to have it shipped, but wanted the shipping charge waived.Living Room 2 Channel -

This is a very good -- perhaps great --- SACD player! Last night I listened to Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition" (the SACD version of the RCA Living Stereo recording) and it sounded fabulous. I realize that in my hookup -- 970 to Panny plasma TV via HDMI to Acoustic Energy Aego2 speakers via Panny's audio-out RCA jacks -- I am not listening to a "pure" SACD signal. My understanding is that the 970 converts DSD to 2-channel PCM, and my TV is converting PCM to analog. Nevertheless, the results were very satisfying. The sound was very pure, lifelike and dynamic. Wind instruments, in particular, sounded very lifelike. The sound was free of digital artifacts; great bass, extended and natural treble, natural tonality in the midrange.
From post #360 on the forementioned AVS Forum thread. And this guy has the SACD signal output through HDMI. Now I wonder how good this Oppo player is when the hi-rez signal is output through its analog jacks. -
Has anybody tried playing Mp3 burned on DVD?
When I had Pioneer Universal Player (DV-563 or something) I played both Mp3 and WMA burned on DVD.

I received mine this afternoon, double boxed. It looks solid, but a lot lighter than PE DV37. I hooked it up, too fresh to comment, but since it plays all, I thought it's amazing for the money and quality. I am not planning to check out multi/sacd/dvda since it is just too much work, but I am glad to think that I have a spare player for these formats, in case. I'll update my impressions in a few days.I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

ok, here is my initial thoughts. Picture Quality is very sharp, clean detail, color saturation is a tad hotter than DV-37, but that could be due to uneven color calibration. Since my PE RPTV doesn't do 720p, I wasn't able to cycle through this setting, only 480i/p and 1080i.
Layer change is unnoticeable on the Oppo, on DV37, it could be a stutter 2 seconds delay. I wasn't able to notice a significant improvement over my DV-37 on PQ, but it's still an upgrade over it, since it plays all formats of hi-rez audio, a swiss-army-knife like features (a very tweakable unit), all for a buck fifty, a lot cheaper than my MIT S2 interconnect
so far so good, DV-37 went back to its retirement, joining my Denon 3800..I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie. -
I have a high def tv, but without HDMI. will this thing upconvert to 1080i through component video ? outputs (the one with the three colors, if I am naming it right)Living Room 2 Channel -

just answered my own question, only 480i/p through component. that sucks, but the big draw was SACD anyway. I allways wanted to try it. still aint going close to wrong for 150.00 bucksLiving Room 2 Channel -

I played the regular Last Samurai tonight, and cycled through 480i/p, and 1080i, to see which setting gives the best picture. on my PE, 1080i is clearly the most vivid, detailed, and film-like out of the Oppo. Now, I am not sure if it's upconverted through component, since it supposed to be upconverted if it's not CSS protected. Is it possible that Last Samurai is a CSS-free?I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

Apparently, they cant allow 1080i upconvert thorugh component due to liscensing issues. friggin retarded.
which brings me to, is there an adapter that can take hdmi and allow it to be played through component?Living Room 2 Channel -

no. otherwise I've done it already. I am in the same boat as you, component only. Hell, I would not hesitate to pay someone to tweak my Pioneer Elite RPTV to install HDMI, if that is an option.I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. Picture at 1080i is a bit cleaner a little more detailed and slightly richer so it's not a really big deal, just something I found interesting.
on component, 1080i, the black bar on the top is about 1.5 inches and bottom is about 2.5 inches.
Do you know why?

I strongly doubt it would be anything affordable. It's not as straight forward as other cabling conversions. There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. My current DVD player just gave up the ghost... and my CD player is starting to develop some minor issues with its right channel output (probably needs a little cleaning)...
no matter, I'm going to go ahead and kill two birds with one stone and place an order for the OPPO
Quick question... since it will be doubling for DVD and CD playback, are there any issues with using a digital coax for DVD's and analogs for CD's?
I really can't imagine any, but I'm curious as to what type of switching is done on the OPPO, if it automatically defaults to digital if it senses both connections, etc etc....
any thoughts?I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. I can't imagine either, but, since I haven't tried it, I can't be 100% certain.
May I ask why do you need to do analog? do you have an external DAC in the path? just curious.I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie. -
Just from my experience, I seem to get a better sound from analogs when listening to two-channel, than from using a digital coax (all DAC's being equal) -- most notably a wider soundstage, and a slight decibal gain. I'm also assuming that it will be pretty much a toss-up between the DAC in my HK avr240 and the OPPO's DAC.
So to answer your question... yes.I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. If you say so...;)
seriously though, I am still amazed that it cost a fraction of what I am used to spending on DVD players, so I am actually very impressed that it is such a great bargain, strictly from picture quality perspective, hi-rez music is a major bonus.
btw, congrats! you'll be happy, and great customer support to boot.I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie. -
Yeah.. I'm pretty pumped about it, and the pricepoint is top notch....
I didn't even have to justify it with the wifey.... as she has decreed this a "wise and sensible purchase"
really though, as a true universal, it offers more than a few things to keep me occupied -- and the SACD-playback feature is at the top of the list
Not to sound heretical, as I know this DVD player should kick **** in the "playing DVD's department" -- but since, I need a new DVD player and a CDP, this looks like the best fix for the moment.
I also like the idea of being able to shut off the video circuitry for discrete audio....I never had it like this where I grew up. So I'm going over the manual, and it looks like freq crossover's and bass management can be handled entirely through the OPPO
Is this just an option for those with AVR's or pre/pro's that don't allow this?I never had it like this where I grew up. Okay, you HT guys.... I'm a babe in the woods here. I got my player last night and everything's kosher until I hook up my component cables to the Oppo. It's showing the same sort of picture you get when you haven't switched to progressive scan on some DVD models. I hooked it up through the standard composite video jack and everything was fine.
It's just that when using the components, the picture becomes a mess and starts rolling like the V-hold is out of control. Components are hooked up correctly to the back of the television, as I just replaced one DVD player with another.
So is there a setting I'm missing or a button on the remote. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated... no. it cycles through 480i/p, 720p, and 1080i. Mine gives rolling v-hold pics on 720p.

I'm at work right now, so tonight I'll cross my fingers and hope that's all it is.
