Teachers never stop working. Sure, they only actively teach for 8 hours a day, but then they grade papers, plan activities, take courses, etc. Teachers are very busy, for every hours they spend in the classroom, they spend an hour out of the classroom working on things (generally) Teachers always have work, outside of work.

Honestly, teachers are brave people, they put up with kids, administrators, and worst yet, parents. Most people put up with administrators. I'm going into education myself, and no, the job market doesn't always look great, the unions can't stop Riffing (which has been very prominent recently) and I know that I'm going to be spending hours upon hours outside the classroom working.

We can disagree on what teachers do and don't deserve, but let us at least be fair about it.
But why complain when it was clearly your choice? Get a different job unless it is true that those that can't do........... teach. Then I guess it was your destiny.

I respectfully disagree. One of my teachers plays in the Cleveland Orchestra. Half the teachers I've had come in from sucessful positions in industry. I chose to go into teaching because I want to make a direct impact on our society, I love working with young minds.

    I think that's enough said.

the one pattern that i've noticed regarding opinions of the profession itself is that the vast majority of those who say teachers don't have it that bad are those who seem to have never done the job themselves; whereas those who point out how difficult and demanding being a teacher really is, during 7-3:30 days and the hours that follow - have. Imo that says it all. I agree with the first post, the last post, and the others like them in between.

I have no remorse for what teachers do or don't get paid. They may start low, but by the end, they'll be doing just fine. They've got all summer to feel sorry for themselves.

When I hear A. Rod making more money per at-bat than a typical teacher makes in a year, that really makes me upset (just a comparison, nothing against A. Rod for getting whatever he can).

I completely understand that but thats just the way things are. with me for example, I worked at circuit city selling tvs and home audio for almost two years and i made 8.50 hr (no commision of course,). Now I have an internship and work at a pizza shop at night. at the pizza shop, I make more the $16 an hour just driving up to peoples door and telling them their price. It makes no sense to me cause I put a lot of hard work selling tvs and got paid half of what Im getting now.

People pay to watch a-rod, thats why he makes 200 million. 50000 people don't pay to get into a stadium to watch teachers.

You were right on. I'd rather hear the guy at McDonalds bitching about his job. At least I know he can't possibly live on that.

If you love what you do money isn't a concern.
