Test tone dvd

So I have this cd of test tones I downloaded somewhere and burned. This cd goes from 10hz to 300hz in 10hz inc.
I was going to try to calibrate my sub with this cd.
I put the cd in and when the 10hz signal played I turned it up to hear it and right away I notice my volume nob is making an audiable clicking sound through my speakers.
So I change back to Norah Jones and everything is as it should be.
I change back and there is that clicking sound. It is pretty faint but I can hear it.
So the 10hz note is playing and I turn it up to 0 and my Panamax 5510 goes into protect mode for the bank the cd player is plugged into.
Everything else was working fine and the tone sounded good.

My question is what happened?

I plugged the cd player into another outlet bank in the 5510 and it started working; I plugged the tv into the outlet the cd player was plugged into and the tv would not come on.

I played Norah Jones again all is fine so I play the test tones again and as soon as it is playing I hear the clicking in the volume.

Thats as far as I got, I am back to Norah Jones and the tv circiut has reset itself so that part is fine.

What happened?

Additional info the cd was playing through the digital rca, I think I am going to play it again through the optical.

Thanks
Sky

So I hooked it up through the toslink and I get the same clicking noise.
I unhooked the digital ic and still get the clicking.
The only metal connection between the dvd player and the preamp is the ground and the s-video.

I want to know how a cd can make an audiable clicking noise though the volume nob on my preamp?

With each click of my volume nob I hear a click in my speakers.

I am not sure if I understand correctly but is the clicking noise coming out of the sub? If this is the case it is probably because your sub could not handle a 10 hz signal. Most speakers could not. That is my thought anyway.

edit: I am not even sure if a lot of electronics could reproduce a 10 hz signal

The sound was comming from my front speakers.
The sub was making sound but I did not hear the clicking from the sub.

Also My Panamax did not reset so I have two outlets that do not work now.

I have the same issue. When raising the volume on my remote. Every db increase there is a click from front L\r speakers. But on a regular DVD there is no clicking noise. My guess is that since there is no signal going to the other channels besides the sub (from 10hz-70hz), the amp is sending (for a split second) a signal to all the channels, hence the click.

    Yes they are.

I called Panamax this am and their tech dept. could not explain it.
I have to send it in with a copy of my receipt and they will warranty it however, I bought it online and I do not remember if it was an authorized dealer.

I seriously suggest you do not turn it up too far.

I have a burn cd. And used another burn cd with music on it to see if it was the cd. It wasnt. It was apparent only on the test tone cd. Which leads me to believe that by sending the amp only one tone at a time the amp has to make the adjustment (filter). Which it does, very quickly, but not instantly. If my memory is correct, my car audio did the exact same thing with the test tone cd.

At least it is not just me, this is the only cd that this has happened with.

I have to pay shipping both ways for them to fix it.
I hope I can find my receipt.

My receipt is from AVSmarts.com and they are gone.
If they are not an authorized dealer I am screwed.

    Additional info about Panamax:

The lady on the phone asked me if the sub was plugged into the Panamax and I said no it was plugged into the wall for calibration purposes.
She informed me that I could not file a claim for damaged equipment because I did not have everything plugged into the Panamax.
When I informed her that the filtered outlets caused a loss of headroom she implied that she was aware of that.
I was actually happy to tell her that even though the sub was the only thing not plugged in to the unit, the unit was the only thing that broke.

I think I am going to get the repair bill for this one. :(

So I just got off the phone with Panamax again and they confirmed that I am screwed.
They also said I would have to plug all my equipment through the panamax to get the "connected equipment insurance"
I told them it did not have enought high current outlets nor enough outlets period; she told me I can plug one of their power strips into one of my high curent outlets and add more that way.

I do not think it is real smart to run 12 appliances through one 15 amp plug.
She also said if I used two 5510's plugged into two different outlets I would void the "connected equipment insurance" warrenty also because they would have seprate grounds and would hum. WTF?

This all sucks because I was just getting ready to do a comparison between 3 different forms of surge/filter protectors and now one of them is dead. (partially dead)

Interesting thing is she offered me a 1/2 price upgrade and all I have to do is send them the cut off power cord from my unit as proof it is out of circulation.
I don't think I want another one even at half price.

Must mean it is time to move on.

I will still try to do a power conditioner shoot-out but it will be different than originally planned.

I had a monster cable power conditioner and had something similar happen however the whole thing went bad. i believe i over drew the circuit it went to protect mode. i wonder if trying to use the 10 hrtz test tone made your equipment over draw the circuit and burnt up the panamax to protect your gear. for what it is worth i sent it back to monster cable and they exchanged it with out any questions asked.

I wish I knew for sure.
the weird thing is I only heard sound from the sub (I think) which was plugged into the wall, the only thing plugged into the now bad outlet was the cd player.
It seems to me that the cd player somehow messed up the Panamax because of the cd.
It sounded real apparent that the cd was having an unusual effect on the electronics of the preamp.
