Have a chance to pick up some SDA SRS's and I was wondering if anyone knows where in the production line the serialnumber # 2811 might fit in?

You may have to contact Polk about that one.

no idea here either. but if they are original SDA SRS's. then they date back to around 1986... that's just a best guess.. if they are 3.1 or 2.3 or something like that.. then they would be newer by a few years is all.

I asked Polk about the manufacture date of a pair of SDA 1C's I bought a few years ago. They could not match my speaker's serial numbers to a specific manufacturing date. All they could tell me was the years that the speakers were manufactured.

I recently requested help from Ken to determine whether or not I had SRS's or 1.2's by giving him the serial #'s (SDA SRS 5330 and 5338) and Ken replied that, "The only real way would be to simply remove one of the SDA 6.5" drivers from the cabinet and look at the label on the back. If you see MW6511, then it is a "1.2" if it is MW6503 then it is a "standard" SRS. This is one of the outside SDA drivers." Mine are 1.2's with an August 1988 production date, so now I know mine are 1.2's despite not indicating it on the serial number. Perhaps you can check these to see as well. (Thanks again to Ken for the great help!) :)

I wouldn't even call that method foolproof, but it's always been the best way of figuring out model years.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

that's pretty cool way to give you some idea as to what you may have. thanks for posting it.

back in those days.. it appears that alot of mixing and mis-matching of drivers were used. you may want to check mor than one just to be sure. ;)

I am surprised Ken didn't say to just check the SDA cable socket. All of the SRS's used blade/blade interconnect sockets.

Checking drivers would work, assuming the previous owner did not "upgrade" his SRS's by switching the SDA drivers. Sometimes owners would replace a blown or damaged driver with an inappropriate one because they all look alike (MW6503's, MW6510's, MW6509's, etc).

I wish somebody would catalog all the differences between SDA versions.
