SOLD!
I’m posting these for a good friend and co-worker of mine. He wanted these to go on Audiogon, but I convinced him to post these here on the Forum first, to give my fellow Polkies first shot at them. These Maggies are the 1.6 model and are about eight weeks old. These were only played for a few hours and were powered by a Krell KSA-250 amp with a Krell pre. He currently owns two additional pairs of Maggies (can’t remember the model) that he is using as surrounds and rear surrounds in his very impressive HT system. These were intended to replace his Carver Amazing Mark IV Platinum’s that he is using for his fronts. He demoed the 1.6’s and they did not have a large sweet spot that he currently enjoys with the Mark IV’s. I wish the 1.6’s would have worked for him as I would probably now own the Mark IV’s.
Anyways, he is looking for $1,200 for these. And to sweeten the deal, he is willing to deliver these within about 200 miles of Pittsburgh. He has children who live in the D.C./Baltimore area and is especially willing to deliver to this area. He has the original packing, etc. Shipping is also an option as these speakers weigh about 50 lbs. each.
If you are interested, PM me and I will give you Dan’s email and phone number. I would rather have you deal with him directly on the details. Dan is a wonderful man and a seasoned audio enthusiast. Very professional and pleasant. BTW, these are great sounding speakers.

Awesome offer on the best value in the Maggie line. List was $1600 a couple years ago.
Anyone that wants a 2 ch rig that will image like a **** needs to be all over these.
Admittedly the 1.6's are a tad bass shy (true of most Maggies), but add a nice sub and you are set.
First time in my life that this Cleveland boy ever wished he lived near Pittsburgh...More later,
Tour...

A year or two from now I'd be all over them. Someone should take them. Suprised on his findings though. the 3.X series has none of those issues. There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. We not only acquired a vast population of morons, we have inculcated all morons, old or young, with the doctrine that the decent and industrious people of the country are bound to support them for all time.-Menkin

Only issue I noted was the size of the sweet spot. Properly set up, I would not classify any Maggie's sweet spot as "large"... including the 3.x series.
Spread them out and/or move them closer to the rear wall and/or decrease toe-in and you could make the area of stereo imaging larger, but the dead center imaging will not be as "sweet" as it can be in an optimized set up.
I think the attempted HT application of these beauties as mains is the root cause of any disatifaction. And while they would do a credible job as surrounds, that would be a waste of their potential. These are strictly 2 ch speakers IMO...More later,
Tour...

I got IC's and Six Pak's to fund or I might have taken a ride to see Carl. I see a pair of these or electrostats in my future.
Last time I drove in Pennsylvania it was snowing to beat the band. Tour's right, this was exactly the issue with Dan. The on spot image was great, but in a large HT setup it was not what he had hoped for. Smooth as silk great sound though.
I'll get you to PA someway, sometime Rich;)

Shameless bump! These speakers will ship in original boxes. They weigh about 50 lbs. each. These new speakers need a good home:)

The last shameless bump. These gotta go. Price reduced to $1,150. Great speakers, low hours. Will consider driving within two hour of Pittsburgh. All original packing material. These sound terrific. Buy now or off to Audiogon. PM me if interested. Thanks!

I found this amusing comment on the Magneplanar website:
"Small box speakers are very popular. We aren't designing and manufacturing large planar speakers just to be different. If we could shrink the unique sound of Magneplanars into a small box, Magneplanars would be as well-known as Bose."

That is amusing...
Meanwhile, a 4-month bump hiatus has to be a record...More later,
