Hooking up speaker wire and interconnects to amps with the power on is bad:( . SPARKS and the lovely buring smell simply add to the home theater experience.

Hook my first set of polks to a cheap sony receiver and try to blast them.

Thank god for thermal protection, the rcvr. shut itself down every time and had to be reset.

The dumbest thing in audio I've ever done is: Went with a pair of Infinity SM series floorstanders for my first home speaker purchase. Uncontrolled boomy bass, wishy-washy mids, and harsh highs. What was I thinking?

    1. Yup over 50...

    2. Closer to 2 dozen...

    3. The dumbest thing I ever did in audio was base my first speaker purchase on size.

Lafayette Criterion 80's were big, and, on sale, affordable for a college kid, but resided on the suck side of the street and were a horrible match sensitivity-wise for the Heathkit AA-15 I had built.

In, the dumbest thing I ever did in audio was buy a Bose accoustimass 15 system at Best Buy 6 years ago because I knew nothing about audio.

Sold it to some dumbass on ebay for $800 a couple of months ago - at least they hold their value well!
