I'm sure a lot of you have been pummelled by the new single that was released officially on the radio today. There is also a small venue tour taking place before the band leaves for Europe. If you even remotely like this band, go see them live. It's one of those things that is just merely an experience. I've been to about 8 of their shows over the year and the experience is always the same -- mind blowing. The visuals are worth the price of admission alone.
The new album comes out on May 2nd, and I do like the single thus far, although it's not as dark as I like this band to be.
The mini-tour dates are as follows:
SUN-APR-30 INDIO, CA/ COACHELLA FESTIVAL
TUE-MAY-02 SEATTLE/ PARAMOUNT THEATRE
THU-MAY-04 OAKLAND/ PARAMOUNT THEATRE
FRI-MAY-05 LAS VEGAS/ THE JOINT
SAT-MAY-06 PHOENIX/ GAMMAGE HALL
MON-MAY-08 DALLAS/ McFARLIN AUDITORIUM
WED-MAY-10 DENVER/ TEMPLE BUELL THEATRE
THU-MAY-11 KANSAS CITY/ MEMORIAL HALL
FRI-MAY-12 MINNEAPOLIS/ ORPHEUM THEATRE
SAT-MAY-13 CHICAGO/ AUDITORIUM THEATRE
MON-MAY-15 DETROIT/ FOX THEATRE
TUE-MAY-16 TORONTO/ HUMMINGBIRD THEATRE
THU-MAY-18 PHILADELPHIA/ TOWER THEATRE
FRI-MAY-19 NEW YORK/ CITY CENTER
SAT-MAY-20 NEW YORK/ CITY CENTER
SUN-MAY-21 BOSTON/ WANG CENTRE
If any of you are members of the exclusive side of their website besides myself and Phuz, let me know!

I love Tool's music - don't like all the lyrics though...
Tool live, no thanks. Their concert, at least the one I saw, was crazy. There was a huge screen behind the group on stage, which was cool, but what was playing on it was effed up: ****, multiple penises, aliens, more **** that might belong to aliens, wavy screens, oops more ****, etc...**** **** ****. Their coreographier or video design guy is either extremely ****, or proud of someone's wang. They maynard topped it all off by stripping all his clothes off on stage. -
Seeing Tool live is a special thing. I do have to agree.
-
Adam Jones is married to Camella Grace, so I doubt that his sexual preference isn't exactly a driving force. Not that it would matter.
Which tour was that? I don't recall weiner being the main theme of any of Adam's sets.
The Lateralus set I saw 3 times, and it was always relatively the same. They are known for their strange and weird music videos. -
I don't remember which tour, it was a few years back - I just remember it was freaky...and not cool
-

I like listening to Tool, but don't care for the lyrics or have any desire to see them. They sound awesome though!

I know he's somewhat political and very anti-religious which I completely agree with him so I love it.Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.

Just dont to to a slipknot concert if you find penises(wtf?) disturbing. Either way, I though music was all about closing your eyes to block out anything else and just listening

thanks for the post. I didnt know they would be at gammage in phoenix. I am SO all over this and getting as many tickets as I can. I imagine I could sell some extra tickets for a pretty good price considering the rabid fan base and the intamacy of show. Of course at least one ticket is not for sale as I will be occupying that seat.
In fact I am surprised that they are letting Tool play this venue. For those non-AZ residents, Gammage is a Frank Lloyd Wright building and a much treasured edifice at the ASU campus. The last rock band that played there was Bruce Springsteen and this resulted in the roof cracking. Because of the structural damage I heard they would not let any more rock acts play this venue. I dont know how Tool manged to escape this. Tool should leave the place in rubble if Springsteen made a crack

haha!
This new album is my new DSOTM, it's that good, IMO.
Some people it will take some getting used to. It was instant for me, I 'got it' right away. It's unlike any other Tool album. The new single is nothing like the rest of the album. -
Hi Dem,
How did you get the album so early? by mp3 downloads?
How are the beats? Any epic songs like Third Eye? Does it have an APC sound? How is the depth?
Sorry for all the questions, I just think that Tool is the most talented and way ahead of thier time band out there. Tool is the modern day Pink Floyd.
Venom -
The album leaked over the weekend, and we have a site set-up at Toolarmy for it. If you have AIM I will be happy to send it to you later tonight so long as you commit to buying it.

Wings Pt. 1 & Wings Pt. 2 are probably the most 'epic' of the bunch, but my favorites so far are Jambi, The Pot, and Rosetta Stoned.
The beats are great, as usual. The biggest change to the overal sound of the band is the vocals. Maynard is on a completely different vocal level and they really took a giant leap when they recorded this one. Where they fall is obviously completely up to the listener, but I like it. It's definitely Tool, but unlike any album they have ever released. It's as experimental as Aenima was, but much more dynamic. The new single doesn't at all capture the overal sound of the album.
My favorite moment so far is at 10:28 seconds (That's EPIC!) into Rosetta Stoned all the way until the end.
I have only gotten 2 full listens in, but it's quickly topped 2 of the 5 releases thus far for me. I haven't had a chance to listen to it on a big system, other than my car and through the Sennheisers last night. The quality of the audio files is a lower bit rate than I like, so that makes it hard to judge just how good it will sound on a good 2 channel system. -
DAMN YOU DEMI!!! You beat me to it.
The "scene" released it yesterday. I just got done getting it (saw the release as I was at work...rushed home), and I am on track two (Jambi). All I can say is WOW! If the rest of the CD is like the first two songs...well I will have this CD in my player for a very very very long time. Some absolutely incredible head banging music. Full review will be coming later....I have to go to bed.
Tool rules!:D -
Demi....well now I know where the scene got it because a lot of people are pissed off because it is transcoded (files where not ripped from a lossless file). So while a lot of people are excited about the release, most are waiting for the lossless release.
Jambi....is one freaking incredible song! -
Yeah, I figure it's only what, just under 2 weeks that the offical release is here, so I can wait for a bit.
-
BTW, I hope you're going to this, Sean:
SAT-MAY-06 PHOENIX/ GAMMAGE HALL
Have you been to one of their shows? -
I've seen Slipknot twice... have yet to see a ****.karpiel666 wrote:Just dont to to a slipknot concert if you find penises(wtf?) disturbing.Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.

Yeah I saw that, but did not bother because of the fact that I will probably not be able to get tickets. Huge tool fans in AZ. Their last Tucson concert is still reviered by many.
-
You'll get an opportunity again this fall when they do an arena tour, but I won't miss these small venue shows if I can help it.
-
Hi Dem,
Thanks for the write up. Sounds great as usual.
I am not sure what AIM is, I assume it is a file sharing software of some type? I admit that I do not do much computer audio stuff. Thanks for the offer though. May 2nd is just around the bend and I am all over this new album. I only buy 1-2 cd's a year at the most, Tool and APC are my exceptions when they are released.
Venom -
Yeah, AOL Instant Messenger. I do a lot of the computer audio to get the general feel of musicians I have heard about, then I buy their records. It all makes sense to me, and almost all of the artists I like support P2P stuff, but Tool would be mad at me. It's okay, I will be buying their record at midnight on May 2nd.
BTW - Lateralus was released a while back on LP if anyone is interested in that. -
This is great, I'm glad you said something. Been a Tool fan for years, but their albums are usually spaced so far apart I lose track. Lateralus concert was the best one I've ever been to (years ago did see APC with NiN too, although Maynard was pretty out of it and they only played for about 15 minutes...).
This is personal preference, but I really like when bands faithfully reproduce their albums, not in to the jam band thing. Tool was so spot-on to the CD's, it was amazing. There's a drum part in 46 & 2 that he just nailed. Awesome. -
thanks for the heads up on the tool pre release .. just grabbed it off the net and it hasn't come out of my player in the car for 2 days .. i have to say it is one of the best tool albums ever .. i agree with demiurge on maynards vocals, the beats, all of it. fantastic album. buy it... my girlfriend despises heavier music and when i glanced over at her at a light in the car this morning she was banging her head to The Pot and smiling !!Sharp LC-46D82U

I saw Tool play in El Paso. It was a fantastic show. Tool are a group of very good musicians. The live performance was as controlled and as tight as their recordings. I was very impressed with the precision they played with live. I'm sure having to sync to video is part of it
Many, many rock groups tend to get a little loose during a live show, but not these guys.
And yes, they are about the music, but the live experience involves sight as well. The visuals during the show add quite a bit to the performance. And I don't remember seeing any genitals on the screen. -
Take Mom and Dad to see it. They will be so grateful to the wonderful kid.
-
Out Today -- Go get it!
-
Oh yes, she will be mine. I bought Lateralus from Target when it came out and later realized that it was an edited version. That sucks, it even had the parental warning sticker. Why edit something and have the sticker?
I heard Wal Mart does this also. I will never buy music from those 2 ever again. Best Buy, CC here I come.
Venom -
It's $9.99 at Best Buy, IIRC.

SWEET! thanks man.
