We picked up LSi's a piece at a time (first the 9's for the front w/stands), then brought home another pair of 9's for the rear, took them back and picked up the 15's for the front, moved the 9's to the back and that was that. We have a fairly robust AVR, however it wasn't untill we added the 5x200watt @ 4ohm 5150, that we really started to hear a difference a big difference! With this amp these LSi's really sing, there is simply MORE sound coming from them. We also are looking at a Carver 2 channel for when we move to 7.1, as we're currently 5.1. Just our experience.

    Good luck and enjoy it!!

No one has really answered the question of the advantages of the pre amp over the AVR. I know the Outlaw 990 has a tuner in it, feature wise what am I missing out on if I dump the Denon and buy a 990?

    Marcinko,

How do you find the Denon 3806? I too have it right now (along with a 3910) driving my LSI15s...I'm looking to get an amp to aid the load on the Denon, maybe an Outlaw, but it's a work in progress, one step at a time!

Denon makes a great AVR, but further to the point -- when you can get yourself an amp, definitely do it. :) I bought my amp prior to having any LSi speakers and it did wonders for the Polks I had before. LSi should definitely be run with an amp, IMO.

I like the Denon alright, I bought it after reading this forum. I love the features, it does everything. Had I realized it had trouble driving the Lsi's I would have probably gone another way. The Outlaw 7500 is a good match. I would buy the Outlaw 990 pre-amp but it doesn't have the HDMI 1.1 and I am saving for a plasma now.

Demiurge is correct, I had clipping at high volumes with out an amp and when posting the symptoms online was quickly directed to get one (w/ 200wpc or more at 4 ohms).

    Marcinko,

Although I kept hearing/reading good things about the Denon3806, I had to return it and get the Yamaha RXV 1600 for 500 less with more or less the same features: both have Burr-Brown DACs, HDMI passthru, approx. same wattage/channel, etc. I especially like how much easier the Yammie was to operate and setup.

I just got the Parasound Halo A52 as an amp, so I'm still waiting for the break in period, but things do look promising...
