RM6800 Sub Hum?

I recently bought RM6800. I bought AVR240 to go with it.
There is a slight hum coming from the subwoofer. Its audible around 5-6 feet from the subwoofer. I cannot make out when the music is on.
I unplugged all the cables except for the power cord and the hum is still there. I suppose it is with the transformer. It comes when the power is set to off/on/auto, does not make a difference with the volume. [I can say its far less than my desktop pc]

I got the speaker from Amazon and the box was broken and there was a small dent in the middle of the botton longer edge . Amazon told me that I may keep it for a discount or I can get it replaced in a month.

Is it a normal from any subwoofer [this is my first set up and I dont know]. Is it possible that my subwoofer is defective. Will this hum normally increase over time if I decide to keep it?

Please advice.

The sub for my 6800 is silent. To test, I switched from Auto to ON - no hum, back to Auto, turned receiver on to DVD (which was off) light was green & no hum

    Thanks for the reply.
I had kept the subwoofer on the carpeted floor. I kept it on a table just to test and its silent now. thats such a relief.
