xrt12 and 5.1

I have an xm xrt12 and love it.
I read somewhere that the xrt12 could handle 5.1 signals when XM starts transmiting and they are soon. My question is " is this true" and if so will it happen automatically or there something that must be done by me?

Its possible, but I don't believe there's anything on the market that can decode the 5.1 signal from the XRt12.

Isn't it just a generic signal upon termination? Why wouldn't it be decoded like any other 5.1 format?
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

i would think so, i have a few cd's that were burned with a DTS track instead of normal PCM and my receiver realizes they are DTS and decodes them fine. of course there might be problems if the broadcast is not DTS or DD.

It probably is decoded like any other 5.1 format, but its not one of the 20 formats that most AVRs decode, so... that's why I answered the way I did :)

It requires the new XM HD surround decoders. I think the XRt12 won't be able to do it. You need to get one of the newer XM HD receivers.

Speakergeek - Ok, did not know that, thanks.

Brian - Gotcha'. Do you think Polk will address this feature in future XM receivers?

I really doubt it will sound much better than the XRt12 running through a receiver with DPLII processing. XM HD touts 6 discrete channels, but it is only XM after all.

I wouldn't expect to sound better either, just interested in the idea.

Not sure... probably will depend heavily on how well the format takes off.

How about some sort of inline decoder between the Xrt12 and the receiver? Could that be done? Or does it have to be wired into the receiver itself?

That would definitely work and has been done before. I'm not aware of anything out on the market that does this though.

Let's just say that if Polk Audio made one I'd buy it.
