Tweeter ID - Monitor 10A

Hi folks. I just bought my first Polk speakers - 10As. i can't believe how nice they sound - like a warm bath of sound - I love them. i've pulled the speakers & had a quick look at the crossovers & they all have an "82' somewhere at the end of the ID numbers. I'm assuming that's the year. The tweeters, look like the Peerless from what I've read here but they don't have anything on them to confirm that. I just saw a picture of what i was told was a tweeter from a /79 (from a 10A). The front was identical but the back had an oval shape around the magnet that mine doesn't have. From these pictures can anyone confirm what I have in my system & is they a model number to be concerned about if I need to replace (with another peerless. Thanks.

Peerless they are. If you need to replace just find another Peerless - model #'s matter not.Audio: Polk S15 * Polk S35 * Polk S10 * SVS SB-1000 Pro

Thanks. Any idea of what a decent price would be? $30 U.S. maybe? Also, do they deteriorate with use over the years?

I meant to say $30 each.

$30 isn't bad. You may do better on eBay or you could post a WTB in the flea market. Good Luck!Audio: Polk S15 * Polk S35 * Polk S10 * SVS SB-1000 Pro

Nice. Yes, like all electro/mechanical devices drivers age with time. The Monitor 10 is Polk Audio's unofficial "Rock" speaker from the Monitor line which began production in the early 70's with the Monitor 4. The 10's have been a vintage favorite, not all 10's have the Peerless tweet.
What are you using to drive the system? Is everything working now? If so great and happy listening just dont over do it with the volume. The Monitor 10's have a fuse on the back binding cup that is supposed to protect the drivers from overload but dont put all your faith in that one device. If your peerless ever give out and you cant find any peerless replacements you can order a replacement tweeter from Polk, but not the Peerless, mention your a CP member for a bit of a discount.

Thanks for the input. I bought a Pioneer SX980 ('79) for a receiver. It's 80 a side & also in good shape. Everything seems to be working well. Although 2 of the mid drivers have slight coil "rub" if gently moved by hand. Not straight on but if I push on one particular spot, they rub. It doesn't seem to rub or affect it when driving them. To play it safe, i just bought the 2 MW6500s that were on ebay a couple of days ago.

OK, dont push on just one side or spot of the driver, If you put even pressure with your fingertips around the outside of the mid driver you should be able to gently push it in without any rubbing, the passive sub should move out when you push the drivers in.

Thanks, i'll avoid that with the new (old) ones. I noticed a impact mark on one side of the driver that's why I tried just pushing on that spot- but you're right, prob. not a good idea.

Definitely not a good idea... Quick check is best done by pushing in on the PR and observing the MW's.
And Peerless can often be found for $30 - 40 per pair.
Welcome to the Club...More later,
