Why do I need to back up anything Sean, I'm not the one on the defense nor am I the one looking for a budget bargain miracle.Political Correctness'.........defined

A PC? Something with a fan that runs as loud as a chainsaw as a source?
No thanks.

Sean, one doesn't have to be a rocket scientist to know that cheap crapola is cheap crapola. Besides that, you don't know what I've listened to. Therefore, to say I don't have experience is extremely naive on your part. The difference (one of many) between you and I is that I have no need to blab on and on about it, nor would I recommend something that you, yourself admitted was random BS.Political Correctness'.........defined

I don't normally like to "derail" the original question asked, because it's a pet peeve of mine; but these thoughts are worth considering. Your lack of soundstage width/depth is most certainly due to your choice of source, be it the Xbox OR Panny DVD.
Perhaps you guys are onto something...
My major complaint about the Lsi9s are that(maybe w/ my gear?) they aren't open sounding and you don't get that phantom center sound placement you may hear with higher end speakers. Would a source effect this so much?

After speakers the source is most important. A great source will completely change a system. Taking it from mediocre to fantastic. After you find a suitable source then you can start looking at getting decent cables and then you'll well on your way.

You're not getting sufficient center imaging with the 9s?
I thought those guys imaged down the center very well when I had them... something is definitely off... perhaps something to do with your positioning.Magico M2, JL113v2x2, EMM, ARC Ref 10 Line, ARC Ref 10 Phono, VPIx2, Lyra Etna, Airtight Opus1, Boulder, AQ Wel&Wild, SRA Scuttle Rack, BlueSound+LPS, Thorens 124DD+124SPU, Sennheiser, Metaxas R2R -

The source, pre amp and amp will all effect the outcome, but what you're saying above sounds like you need to play with speaker placement.Political Correctness'.........defined

I agree, it sounds like you need to do a lot of placement tweaking. I've never extensively listened to the LSi line or played around with placement, but I've read a LOT of people on here say how dependent on placement the LSi series speakers are. Frustratingly hard to get right, but worth it when you get there.George Grand wrote: »

Also, double check the phase on your speakers. That can kill your imaging and it's easy to goof and hook them up backwards..Gallo Ref 3.1 : Bryston 4b SST : Musical fidelity CD Pre : VPI HW-19

When I initially completed my current HT room, I set up my 9's with a Sony CD player, the Rotel pre and amp now in the second system. The speakers were placed in the room to create a 'soundstage'.
I still had components from my initial purchases way back in 79-80 time frame. Out of curiousity, I connected an entry level two head cassette deck from this era. I also found some of the few pre-recorded cassettes I had purchased. Playing these hideous sounding cassettes still created a 'soundstage' when listening.
I have never used a xbox or its competition for any purpose, but I would think that a CD played through any current player would sound better than a pre-recorded cassette we had to endure in days past.
As per my post #32 in this thread, play with the speaker placement to rule out any possibility that this is an issue. Start with the standard triangle configuration and move the speakers closer together until you get a stable center image. Once you have this, there are many other theories on speaker placement you can use to optimize the placement solution.
If you want to spend any money, get a better source.
If you play with the speaker positioning, let us know the results.
