hi folks. I have RM3300, from the RM7200 series kit, that is not working at all. (ITs the flat style) It was on a stand and got knocked over now it doesnt work at all. not even a little hum, buzz, nothin. Do you think a fall like that can take out the drivers comepletly or is it the crossover board? the drivers look, feel, smell fine. ON the crossover circuit board, there is a copper spool and one of the plastic ties appears to be broke. other then that it looks fine. I really dont want to replace the drivers for $156.00 if its only the crossover.
ANy thoughts woud be greatly appreciated!!
thanks,

The fall may have caused the voice coil to seize. Try gently pushing in on the driver with equal pressure near the outer edge, not the surround, but the cone area and see if it moves freely without making any scratchy noises.Political Correctness'.........defined

thanks for the reply-
The driver has lots of movement, no scratchinesss or nothing. Its very fluid feeling. i probably am getting like 1/2 inch of movement. -
Major bummer.
That's a tough one. The shock of impact could have caused a whole host of things. You could have hairline cracks in the crossover circuit board, you could have a component that broke it's solder joint, or broke from where the lead enters the component, or you could have a breakage in the driver coil itself depending on how much it extended on impact. The coil could have also become disconnected where it attaches to the tab on the driver.
You might try swapping the driver out of another speaker and see if it works. You could try connecting a very low audio input directly to the driver tabs (with it disconnected from the crossover) This would verify if the driver is good or not.
Good luck.The Family
