If i have extra 10 ga wires, would it be beneficial if I use it as surround wires. This are inwall wirings.... Please advise. I am currently doing my dad's HT.

Should I spend xtra$$ for 14-16 GA wires.

Much thanks

quick, charge dad for them and buy yourself something else.

10 guage is a bit much for surrounds, 14 is more than adequate for HT unless you have a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong run say all the way around the house.

is 50ft of wire considered a long run? I just picked up some RCA digital cable 14gauge for my rears, and got a 100' spool. I was going to just cut the 100' into 50' lengths, and use those for the surrounds. IS that ok?

Is Digital cable good or bad? Dirt cheap at HD today, couldn't pass it up! :)

12 guage is fine. It's a bit heavy for surround duty but if you already have it, use it. Can't hurt.
I perfer 14-2 or 14-4 for rears depending if they are bi wirable or not. Thats what I use. my runs are about 30 fett or so each and it works great. I run my rears in small and cross them at 60hz.

10 guage, while not neccesary for surrounds, will work fine. Before you try to run 10ga. wire in-wall - make sure it will fit in your planned binding posts. LSi speakers will fit it, but I don't think the RTi's will.

Worth a test to see if they will fit prior to running the wire.

BTW - I would go ahead and run 12 guage if the 10guage does not work. Again - it would be overkill as well, but most binding posts will fit 12 guage and since it is in-wall, you won't have to worry about it again.

Nightly, your 14ga wire should be fine for your 50' runs. A useful table of suggested maximum lengths is found in this article , which is also valuable in its entirety for the factual information it contains relating to the fantasy world created about wire by sellers and naive listeners who think that subjective impressions formed in uncontrolled listening can somehow overturn well-established audio principles.

Thanks for the link. Good info in there. I hate using 50footers, but it will help cause it's going down thru the basement than back up to the AVR. Thanks again

All environments where human listening occurs are uncontrollable. This is a given.
