I HATE that saying, & I don't know what century you are living in, but most women are out there working as well! We like to relax as well, & we don't want to be tripping over some big a** speakers on the way to the couch!:D

You men earn the money and you need to relax at home with BIG speakers. Women want you to buy what you need to be happy.

    Isn't that right?

    "Truth will set you free"
Now if you really believe that I have a ton of **** for sale just for you!! ;)

But, better now than later. Let her know the deal is done and that you got them sooooooo cheap that you really expected to lose the auction.

I do agree that you should put HER music on first and make sure she believes that they are "OUR" speakers and that they are awesome for US!!!

"Listen to what WE have now"....The WE part may work. Or maybe not, but it's your best shot nonetheless.

Oh, and you got them for REALLY bloody cheap as well.

The "Shut up and get me a beer crap" is really cool but with the size of those speakers she may mistake them for the fridge and try and reach through one (or more) of the mids and tell you "Can't find one honey"!!!:D

Ok, I've read the responses with my wife because I kind of did the same thing....I told her I was getting "stuff", but didn't get into the details of "how much" and "how many". She says to get her something nice or at least make a commitment to get something nice. In my case I got her a small diamond ring (because I could no longer afford a bigger one after the spending I did) PLUS, I promised her a BIGGER ring for our 25th wedding anniversary.

Being single really does have its advantages sometimes ;)

I say just try and be honest and tell her before they get there. It probably would have been better to tell her before you bought em but that's a little late now...

You can't tell her before, cause then she gets her friends to schill bid against you driving you out of your price range.

Bribes are definitely out... makes the situation more superficial and open for arguement.

My wife can sense something is in the works (or on the way) after first contact. If she can appreciate or understand your desire for them, thats cool, also trying to impress her once the monsters arrive is also a good idea. Watch a movie with them (and her), making it a fun night.

I've got 2 amps heading my way, wife knew immediately... Still alive.

    Phase 1 complete!

Man that was hard. I planned on "mentioning" it when I got home from work, but it took me until 7:30pm. I had a perfect seguay when she mentioned that a front speaker in the minivan was cutting out. The meat of the convo went something like this...

Me - "I WON another set of speakers on ebay. Got a pretty good deal on them."

Her - <a look> not scary, just one of those "now what is he up to" looks.

Me - "I've always wanted these. They are like the pair (SDA-2) I sold". <that's not a lie, is it?>

Her - "Didn't you sell those because they were too big?".

Me - "Ya, but we didn't have room for them in the old house. I'm going to
buy some bookcases and clean up the rec room."

I'll let you know the reaction when she actually sees them.

Also, based on a couple comments in this thread, I should mention that my wife is a GREAT woman and I have all the honor in the world for her.

Hey I'm in the same boat as you. I got "caught" backing into my driveway with the bed of my 3/4 ton pickup holding 2 of these sda 2.3s. These things are monsters. Luckily I have a great wife that understands my "sickness." Hopefully you can be just as lucky. Did I tell you these speakers are huge?

    Phase II complete.

They arrived today while my wife was out. Holy crap, these things are bigger than I thought. Luckily I was able to get them in and installed before she saw them. The initial shock of a couple truckers lugging them through the front door was averted.

I bought a tall book shelf to tidy up the room and create some real estate. Once they where in, they look great and we didn't really have to sacrifice any space.

As I type the "Pride and Prejudice" soundtrack is rolling and we both are pretty pleased. It is nice to actually HEAR music again after settling for half rate speakers for several years.

Man, this is better than some of the movies I've been watching lately. Suspense, terror, drama, deception, reaching out to a bunch of strangers for moral support...

Doesn't get any better than this.

Just let us know how the finale turns out.

The whole kids thing looks a little sketch, but you could work it. The only problem is that if you have older kids, and they hear those speakers, they will, on a audio level, never be satified in life without a pair themselves. But that is a rick you will have to take!

Did you mention the plan on bi-amping your wife... errr.. i mean the speakers ?
Seriously, if you get a chance, you should at least try bi-wiring the speakers to get the most out of them. Use quality cable when doing so. I am quite pleased with the results of bi-wiring mine. I cannot bi-amp simply because I do not have the room to do so.

Why not... there is no mention in the rules forbiding selling family members. You might be able to have a 2-for-1 sale if you can throw in the mother-in-law, or go ahead and have a firesale on the entire family.

This was nearly an untrue episode for me as I went with a friend to audition the SDA2's and SDA1s at the age of 17. Because the speaker setup was out in the open in the middle of the store, not anywhere near a wall, I was unimpressed. My friend went ahead and purchased the SDA2's and we got them home that same night.

After I hooked them up at his house, AGAINST A WALL, it was the best sounding speaker I ever heard, and became a Polk fan for life. 5 years after he purchased his SDA2's, I purchased my first Polks - the SDA1Cs. Never looked back ever since.

Congradulations on your purchase. You got them for an incredibly good price I have had a pair for a long time. When I first got them home, we misread the box as to weight and just couldn't understand why they felt so heavy. When I put on James Galoway Silent Night with high flute, my wife burst into tears, being moved by the beauty of the music and said "You got to keep them". Women tend to be much more sensitive to high frequecy distortion - they were the first speakers she had heard that didn't huirt her ears at high volume.
