Just received my RTi8's & Panamax 5100!!
I posted a thread a couple weeks ago about building a H/T system and asking for suggestions. Originally, I had planned on a $1500 total budget involving a H/K 435 & RM6900 system. After several suggestions and thinking about things a little more I decided to spend a little more and purchase individual pieces of the system over the next few months so it wouldn't hurt my budget. I picked up a H/K 635 refurb from Ebay a few days ago and my RTi8's and Panamax 5100-EX came in tonight! WOW!! I love these speakers!! I was listening to a local rock station that was playing Metallica at the moment and cranked them up. They sounded amazing (this is without a sub, etc)!! Very nice highs and some bass too. I guess I got a little carried away with the volume because I noticed my home alarm control panel had a blinking light that shouldn't have been lit. After closer inspection, it was the glassbreak sensor going off from Metallica blaring!!! I found that quite funny!
I want to send a big thanks out to all the suggestions I received from everyone here on the boards and a BIG thanks to olkiepolkie! Zach lives close to me and is an authorized Polk, etc dealer that hooked me up with the speakers and Panamax. He's VERY informative and patient with a newbies questions (THANKS Zach! )
Here is a pic of the current setup. My next plans are adding the SVS PB-10 sub and then the remaining speakers.

Can you believe that is wallpaper! The previous owners were wallpaper junkies and we've not had time to redo it yet. We had "bunny" wallpaper  as a border in the living room before we took it down! -
Wow. You should hunt them down and slay them before they destroy another home.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Awesome setup. A few suggestions, if I may. Move the speakers out about a foot away from the TV, and maybe try toeing them slightly. Also, your receiver may not be getting the room it needs to breathe. It really needs to have a few inches on all sides for ventilation. Since that really isn't possible with your stand, you may want to think about adding a small fan to help keep the avr cool. HK's do have a tendancy to run hot. Other than that, you should be fine. Enjoy.

Thanks for the tips. I do have enough cable to move the speakers out about a foot so I'll give that a try tonight. Do you have suggestions for a fan? I did notice the receiver was fairly warm, although I have never owned one so I don't really have a comparison. I have a IR therometer so I could get the temp if anyone can give me a recommended operating temp. -
Good advice, Skeezer. In fact, you should consider purchasing another A/V rack, not only for the HK, but also for the Csi5 once you buy it. Sure, you can place it on top of the TV, but IMO it'll look better and sound better in a rack. Audio Advisor has excellent prices on a couple of very nice audio racks right now.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

Any links to the racks you're suggesting? -

Congrats, you will not regret going with the 8s. Get yourself a sub and you're on your way........

way to go Matt!!!
excellent choices all around
it was good to see how patient you were with the selection process, and more importantly, how open you were to all suggestions...
it is fairly evident that you made an informed decision that will best serve your needs for the present, as well as for the future
Congrats, rats and alley cats from a fellow newbie:DI never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore -
Hey Matt, awesome setup! You are going to have some fun. I love my 8s especially in HT. Also, when you get your sub try to run your fronts small. There is a big difference running those babies in small or large setting. If you calibrate your system to your room acoustics it should sound sweet with your SVS.

It's a 70 Mach 1 Mustang. I actually own a 2003 Mach 1 Mustang and hope to get a 70 Mach one of these years. I'm a diehard Ford fanatic and actually drag race my 03. Best so far was a 12.78 @ 109 on stock tires with a few bolt on parts! -

Awesome,
I suggest the placement change as well, a lil farther from the TV - a lil toe in...
And about the wallpaper... anyone who likes wallpaper (uses alot of it in their home) has obviously not had to take it down... and if they have (and enjoyed it) - something is wrong.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Hey matt,
You have a great setup and when you get a sub, you'll have a great system for music. As suggested above, you will definitly need to buy a new stand to fit that csi5(unless you put it on the top of the tube) and move the speakers farther apart for better separation. and you should have left the bunny rabbit wallpaper up cause that would matched everything perfectly;) .it sounds like they really tried their hardest to ruin a nice looking house:) . oh yeah, and for the rears, check out the fxi3's(if the stores you looked at have them), my buddy uses these as surrounds with his rti70s and they sound great.

Matt is a stand up guy and is a good addition to the forum. There are getting to be more and more of us here in the area, so we may end up having a little Polk fest one of these days around here.
Enjoy them Matt.Tschüss

Zach, a Memphis area Polk Fest sounds awesome!! I'm DEFINATELY enjoying the RTi8's! I setup the receiver last night to play music CD's through the DVD player. Dave Matthews Band, Saliva, etc never sounded so great!! I can't wait to add the rest of the system. I'm hoping to watch a movie with them tonight -
Any suggestions/limits on operating temps for the H/K 635? It is tight in the TV stand, but that is all I have at the moment.
-
If you have the room for it, try spacing the RTi's out as wide as they are far from where you sit.
It should be an equilateral triangle in ideal circumstances.
This should make the stereo image much larger and give you nicer separation.
I've been pondering a pair of these vs RTi 6's...Harman Kardon AVR-435 Receiver
