Does anyone have a suggestion for a 2 channel receiver to go with the lsi 9s?
I am looking for something reliable in the $600 to $800 range. I am very new to this. I would also appreciate any suggestions as to where to buy this. Where I live we don't have any stereo stores other than crutchfields and circuit city. I am assuming that I will have to drive about two hours for the purchase. That is also why the reliability factor is important.

For two channel, shop around for a used preamp and an amp rated to handle the 4ohm load of the LSi's. Bang for the buck you could do well doing this.
Then, there's this. They have a great rep for producing the power as they state in their specs so it should handle the 4ohms o.k.

For that kind of coin, you can get into very respectable used separates or an integrated amp. I'd peruse audiogon / ebay etc for options.

I agree with Troy. Check ebay, audiogon, the Polk flea market forum, etc for a used int. amp or seperates. Even the good stuff from almost 10 years ago today can make the LSi sing. Go used to get the most bang for your money.
You can take a look at Rotel, B&K, NAD, Parasound, etc.

You are talking to someone who knows NOTHING about electronics but would like to pursue the used route based on recomendations. When I go to EBAY I am totally lost in terms of what to buy. If I type in NAD for example, I am overwhelmed with the items being sold. If anyone could be a bit more specific in terms of what I am looking for I would be grateful. Actual models and or charachteristics/specs of models that I am looking for.

Rotel RA1060 or RA1070 intergraded would be the perfect fit.
used on ebay or audiogon will yield best price.

I would consider the Outlaw Audio RR2150. There have been a couple of discussions here in the forum and Stereophile did a cover story on it this month. It is a retro style stereo receiver from a well respected company. It is mail order only but they have a 30 day return policy and all you would be out is shipping if you don't like it. You may or may not like the styling. However, there is one small problem. It is so popular they are out of stock and taking orders for the next shipment. They sell out quickly when they get a new shipment in. Here is a link to it at Outlaw Audio's web site.

It's out of production. It works fine. It was cheap. Not sure I would recommend it. It replaced a first generation NAD player (5330, I think) i had that died.
Decent for the money, SQ is ok, but I probably wouldn't recommend it to anyone.Signature goes here -
NAD C370. I have the seperates version which is the C160 for the pre and C270 as power amp. The C370 is both in one unit. You can get it at a good price because it's discontinued.

CRj has a nice Rotel for sale on the Flea Market:

Preamp then amp..... Rotel RC1070 then an RB1070 should do the trick. If bought new, it will run you around $1200+ for the combo. If bought used, it will run you about $800 used.Magico M2, JL113v2x2, EMM, ARC Ref 10 Line, ARC Ref 10 Phono, VPIx2, Lyra Etna, Airtight Opus1, Boulder, AQ Wel&Wild, SRA Scuttle Rack, BlueSound+LPS, Thorens 124DD+124SPU, Sennheiser, Metaxas R2R

Sounds like to me you're wanting something with a warranty? That leaves out used, right?
If so, I can only lend my biased opinion in favor of NAD. I just got a new C720BEE receiver, and I'm happy with it. It doesn't have a lot of features, but it sounds great, and the power rating seems to be very conservative. I'm using mine with a pair of LSi9s and it seems fine with them. It isn't slick looking. It's rather plain in a military kind of way, but what it does do it does well. The NAD CD player ain't half bad either. -
It is difficult to give an exact recommendation due to the variance of personal prefernce/opinion. You have been given some good advice on this thread so far. B&K, NAD, Rotel, Parasound, Outlaw, Carver. These are all solid units that can be obtained used at reasonable cost in your price range.
If you are not familiar, as you have stated you need to do some reading on used forums or review sites. Good info here of course, Audiogon, Audioreview.com. Do a google search for stereo equipment review.
Ultimately once you have some knowledge under your belt of what makes one brand/type different from another you are going to have to find a way to listen to some gear so you can decide what sounds good to you. You can demo newer gear at high end audio stores, and some of them deal in vintage used gear as well. try looking up a used audio store in your local yellow pages. Listen to friends systems.
There is a lot of good used gear out there, but once you've learned what brands have long term performance and quality, personal preference is what will make the difference for what works for you.The Family
