I wandered into the local snobish audio store after geting the upgrade bug. I was leaning towards Klipsch but they steered me to polk. When i saw their prices were outrageous I went home and started surfing the net . That is how I ended up here. This forum has been very good to me. I didn't no a damn thing about HT befor I stumbled into this fine establishment other than HT in a box is simple. With the help of this forum and Ebay I have put together a impresive system with a lo budget. Here is what i got so far
      Denon 3803
      B&K 5125 amp
      Sony 36" Wega flat screen
      Mains PLK LSi 9's
      center LSiC
      sr LSI7's

Just waiting to get the cash to grab the LSi FX's and B&K 7125 to biamp the whole thing. Or go big time and move the 9's to the rears and go for the 15's. I have to stop now I'm geting all misty eyed just thinkin about it.

Hay Mantis what part of the communist state of Pa are you from.I hope u are not from Phily after the comment i made about the eagles

I basically picked up my set up because they were a good deal. The local chain was going out of business (the wiz), and everything was 30% to 60% off. I was planning on upgrading my system (previsously had a $500 pioneer surround system that just didn't do it for me. The whole system wieghed less than my new sub woofer). In the decent tower speakers they had some Klipse, Bose, Polk and something I never heard of (they also add a bunch of "home theater sets", but I wanted it for audio, so I decided to go with something a little larger). So I went home and searched the net and found anyone that compared these seemed to give Polk the best reviews. Picked up the towers and brough them home. they sounded great.

I then came here to try and get a little more info on assorted stuff, and was suprised on how much info I can get and how helpful everyone was. Then I though I had a problem with a tweeter. Sent an e-mail and they were ready to ship me a new one (but it ended up that a jumper wasn't tight enough) That convinced me to file the rest of the room with Polk.

But now I want more. Although the whole system is only a year old a year old, I want to get a little more power (maybe a 5803). I find myself to often watching Floyd on DVD and wanting to turn it way past 0. I also need a new DVD player.

I never paid much attention to POLK until seeing a writeup on ebay for a vintage Yamaha receiver a few months back. It said the Yamaha coupled with the 7Bs was as realitic a soundstage as it gets. Hmmm? better check this out, I thought. Until then I figured the best rig I'd ever heard was my college roommate's (and current business partner's) - a Mac 6100 driving a pair of Altec Voice of the Theater home versions, circa mid-70s. Boy, did we rock back then (and piss off neighbors and landlords) - YES, Bowie, Genesis, Rundgren, Who, Stones, Roxy Music, Fleetwood Mac, almost anything BRITISH, 'cept Todd . Back to the present, went on to score a pair of 7Bs on ebay, primo, with original stands, for an admittedy primo price ($250, not including shipping). Also had scored a Fisher 800C about the same time. Wired the rig up and Holy F***ing Cow. The tuner section on that 800C and those Polks sent me to audiobliss. Quickly forgot the vintage smaller Advents I had been using for years driven by a so-so Sony. I was so enthused I caught the bug and quickly bought a pair of 7Cs, mint, on AudioReview for $120, and soon a pair of 10Bs off-ebay that needed two new drivers for just $85 (smart shopper by now). Four drivers from a fellow forum member cost $100, so now I have 2 drivers for sale, I guess. Also I recently picked up a Fisher 800B (museuem piece) and another 800C. My turntable, I guess, might be my most valuable asset - a mint Thorens TD165 that I scraped every penny together to buy for $200 in 1975 or so (when I was making sandwiches at a deli for $1.90 an hour), and I use it now alongside a Denon DCD-595 player and Nakamichi BX-1 deck. Finding this forum has been great. Many thanks to Dorokusai and Manamp for help finding the drivers for the 10Bs. Finding POLK has been even better. I can barely recall when I thought a pair of Large Advents was true hi-fi.

Thanks for the interest and the opportunity to gab about my stuff. I am so pleased to be a Polk owner that I am driving my friends and family nuts. They just don't get it. I have been unable to discuss Audio with anyone who truly has anything educated to offer. I am so sick of hearing about how great are Bose speakers.
I have wanted to own Polk since the first day 15 years ago when I purchased some bookshelf pinnacles. I had a few friends who where audiophiles and they all wanted to slap me for my choice. Not that pinnacle was horrible but because I was trying to accomplish something other than what I paid for.

Recently I have been able to start upgrading my Audio system because Polk has discontinued a RTi series.

      I own RTi150's L/R/F
      RTi40 center
      Rti38's Rear surround

      Next week I will complete the upgrade with;

      Yamaha RX-V2400
      RTi38's Center Surround
      1 or 2 PWS505's (I can't decide.)

I really considered Klipsh because I would have quality speakers at a cheaper higher db rating than I will ever be able to obtain with Polks. I nixed that thought when I began reading this forum and learned that Klipsh owners also turn to this forum for advice. Also I just can't get beyond the sound that horn tweeter shrieks.

I would appreciate any advice you have regarding the completion of my upgrade.

      Thanks.

I've been hanging around here for a while, keeping to myself mostly. I stumbled upon this forum when I needed advice for replacing some blown tweeters in my 55's. Everyone was really helpful, and my replacements work well. I figured since I registered I may as well dig around and see what I could learn. This has been a true learning experience for me, as I am a newbie for sure. Always been interested in HT a well as 2 channel setups. Started visiting the local high-end electronics store when I was 13. Unfortunately no-one wanted to adopt me, and lack of fundage kept me from equipment of my own. Finally reached the point of no return when I bought my rt55i's and it was downhill from there... I'm still too poor to purchase the LSI's I would like, and most likely will be for some time to come. Anyhow, I get a real kick fumbling around the forums here and look to the day when I too may have 1300 posts. Maybe then I'll be cool, but until that day comes you will all be blessed with my meaningless ramblings in an attempt to learn. I'm sure I'll step on someones toes along the way, but hey, at least its entertaining right?
Well, enough from me already, thanks to this post I may break into double digits :D

I got the Polk bug while working at Good Guys a few years back. I was in school for my undergrad at the time and wanted to get some good quality stuff at a price I could afford. After spending many hours (after hours) auditioning every speaker in my price range, a pair of RT400's became my new best friends. They were by far the best sounding speakers for the types of music I listen to. I also remember hearing a Polk sub for the first time and thinking: now that is what quality music is all about. I am now an admitted bass-head, and have experienced the subwoofer chain of evolution: PSW120 to PSW303 and now PSW650 and a PSW1200. As I continue in school, I have to be happy with the things I can afford and dream about all the nice high end stuff I would love to have. Thanks to all the vetern members for their knowledge and advice.

For now my current setup includes:
      JVC reciever @ 115 watts/channel
      JVC DVD player
      JVC 32" TV
      R50 front
      R10 rear
      Csi75 center
      PSW650
      PSW1200

Polk Audio continues to make speakers that make me smile wide everytime I crank them louder than my neighbors would like.

Lurking for over a year, club member for a couple years, Justin just got me fixed up to post today!

I've gotten so much enjoyment over the past year or so watching Sid blow up stuff, deny any part of it, and make outrageous statements about his system after 5 minutes of listening to any new piece he adds only to be burned at the cross by Russ. Reminds me of my relationship with my 4 teenage boys as they blew up multiple car amps, stuffed 1000 watt amps under seats and then asked good 'ol Dad to straighten it out and make it sound like his! You guys crack me up.

      Member @ HTF,AVS,HTS &HTT. Not a snob, just a avid fan.

Marantz 1060 Fisher phono and JBL L100s were my first college setup followed by Sansuii gear. As with my early muscle cars, I sold them to friends for pennies and have kicked myself since.

Polk head since late '80s when I used to make monthly trips 200 miles to hear the SDA 1.2s driven by some luscious Luxman gear that I was never able to afford raising 5 kids.

My current setup in Main HT:
Front PJ - Infocus X-1 on 92x69 DIY screen
      DVD Player - JVC 600VBK
      Receiver- Harman Kardon AVR 7200
      Mains - RTi70s
      Center - CS350LS
      Sides - RT/FX
      Rears - RT55s
Subs - Dual EBS Shiva Couch
Sub Plate Amp Edge Audio 320 Watt

      2nd system in Living Room
JVC 9010VBK/Polk6600/35 in. Sony direct view

      3rdsystem in Bedroom
      JVC RXDV3SL/Polk5400

EX Series all around in my sons Mazda MX6

As you can see by my current gear slant, Polk Audio has been
my favorite speaks for over 15 years and probably will be for sometime to come. Hard to find better value.

Sorry for the length, happy to be turned on,

Well, I almost qualify. 355 posts in 5 1/2 years. Thats a little over 1 post a week. I'm like most of these guys. Mostly lurking, and a few occasional posts here and there. I usually don't get into threads or post about equipment I haven't had first hand experience with. And like the other polkies with few posts, stay out of the big arguments and heated discussions. We leave that to the main 30 or so main polkies. It's usually a fun read.:) Hey, I do have some kick **** Polks though. Wow, I didn't notice that the thread was this old. DUH

Hmm, I believe I have more than 15 posts.....

Infact, I could put 15 in my post count about 213 times....go figure

      I chose Polk speakers.......

well I'll tell ya why honestly.....

They had good specs, looked good, and were pretty cheap for what they offered. In other words, I asked my Dad what he thought of "Polk Audio" and he said...they made a good speaker.

So i set out, to buy some RT35i, and a Sony (yes Sony, AGH) receiver. A couple months later, I had it! Yes, the start of my addiction. Sure enough, 2 weeks after having the sony.....I sold it...

Yeah, 5 months later It was summer, I worked 7-8 weeks straight, for 8-9 hours a day in the blistering hot sun...oh yeah now were talking

That summer I got a yammer hammer receiver, RT25i, and a CS245i, cd player, and a subwoofer
      and other various things

I had that system, ol for about a year with no change....

So i purchased an Adcom amp...yeah, guess what? My receiver didnt have preouts! So what did I do? I bought another receiver with preouts, and sold my yamaha...

So then, i upgraded that, got a new dvd player, and started my road to seperates........

Airplay and I were talking on the net and he says, I bet you can fit towers in your room if your rearrange it...so I spend 7 hours messing around with my room.....

Next day I sell my RT25i and CS245i to WoodyJacobs and I purchase the RTi70 about a week later...

I also forgot to mention the countless amounts of amps I obtained between that time....lmao

Turns out, by the time it was over.......... I had a 9 channel 5 channel rig, and still upgrading!

I would love to have bookshelf centers, but yet.....I'd have to buy ANOTHER AMP....so nope no more

Next upgrade is a new subwoofer.....so......yeah

Polk makes KILLER speakers, seen how much R&D they put into this mess, and I will forever reccomend Polk to everyone. Their quality is unmatched for the $$$.

All you polksters with polk rigs out there, you rock on! I know I am! Everytime I hear my system, I got a smile on my face! You should too! lol

      - Sid

It started by wanting to get a new hdtv and after going into Best Buy and thinking I knew all I needed to know and walking out with a pioneer vt60 60inch and a nice and shinny sound bar and wireless bass speaker I thought I had a great sound system that I would be happy with.

I had it all set up up and after a few days I went out on the net and started into my buying remorse, I went to buy my first avr witch was a pioneer vsx-43 and some of the best budget speakers in the world, Pioneer something or another at BB (cnet said so).

A few days later and a hole burning in my wallet I returned the avr for a better one, vsx-70 .

The next thing I was unhappy with was the tv so off I went to BB and swapped it out for a Samsung f8500 and while I was there I saw some Polk 330x towers and fumbled through the buttons to get them to work and compared them to my pioneer super budget speakers (cnet said so) and the Polk's were much better, I went home and swapped out the old for the new Polk's and things were getting better. That is when I found this forum. and just started to skim though it.

The next thing I thought I really had to have was a class d amp. I went back to BB and swapped my vsx-70 and a few more green pieces of paper for an SC-71. I got it home and set it up and when I came out of my house a week had gone by and I still felt some thing was missing. I didn't have surround sound so I went backed to BB and walked out with Polk 110b's.

Things were getting better and then WHAM my wife said lets get a blu-ray player. So I did what any good consumer does and went to BB and got got a Panasonic 330 blu-ray player. I got it set up and then went out on the net to find that BB had the Pioneer BDP-62FD player for 200.00 and it was a much better player so back to BB I went to get the new player.

Thing were starting to settle down when my wife says she wants new furniture and had me in a corner with all the thing I just bought so I have new furniture and a new recliner to

Then Polk had the friends and family sale so that's when I got an account here and bought some 440,s and a 250 for my center channel. After waking up on Sunday I wanted to get the 550,s but the sale ended early so I could not change my order. I sent some emails off to Polk to see if I could change my order from the 440 to the 550. They must be swamped with orders because I have not heard back yet. I will be happy with the 440 if I cant get the 550,s. It was a great sale for sure.

Now I am reading about amps and pre outs and now am going to spend more money. I have found a new hobby and so far I love it. The quest for better sound and I just took my first steep down the rabbit hole.

There were a few more things in the story but I covered the high points.
