Hey..can anyone tell me how much difference there is between these recievers?...the Hk shows much lower power and higher THD just wondering if a guy can take these figures to the bank? Are they both high current?

Watts don't mean squat. They're probably about equal in power.

FWIW, I'd take the HK over the Denon any day.

Early is right. Ignore the numbers. Either is a nice choice.

As always...if you can...listen to both and pick what sounds best to you.

Just so there won't be any confusion with the responses you get, Denon is known for their many processing/switching features while HK is known for their amplifier power and honest ratings.

It really is a matter of your personal preference and needs. The HK models are a nice single box solution for HT and music use. The Denon shines as a preamp unit driving separate amplifiers.

Listen to both how you would use them, and decide for yourself, since few here will knock it either way as both camps are represented pretty well by our members.

You might want to tell us what speakers you plan on using as that can help with our responses.

I vote HK as well, I have no complaints what so ever. Mind you that answer may be biased as I have not tried a Denon product.

I bought the Denon a couple days ago. I was also looking at the Hk 635 as well. The Denon had higher power rating and was around the same price. One thing it doesn't say anywhere however is "high current". But my salesman told me it was..Anywhoo...does anyone here know if it's worth it for me to buy the optional mic and do the automatic room setup? Geez i got piles of questions..i'd sure like to hook up with someone who owns one and pick his brain...hehe

Take a look at my sig, and you will see how I would vote. The best way I can put it is, that I would make the purchase again having used my Denon 3806 for a few months now. Take note though, I am using seperate amps for my fronts.

As for the mic. for autoeq, yes by all mean get one. My autoeq works very well.

You should be more than ok with that Denon; I have a 3803 powering RTi8's and CSi5 plus some shi**y surrounds and cannot be happier.
On the microphone, I would rather spend the money on a SPL meter from Radio Shack...but that's just me :)

Huh? You gotta buy the mic separately with the Denon? What a rip-off.

the 3805 was the first denon to come out with the auto setup feature and they did not include the mic. Every other model from the 1906 on up includes the mic.

Good choice on the Denon. Whoops the ever living crap out of an HK in sound quality. I've done it a hundred times at work and all my customers agree.

Car Setup: OEM Radio, RF 360.2v2, Polk SR6500 quad amped off 4 Xtant 1.1 100w mono amps, Xtant 6.1 to run an eD 13av.2, all Stinger wiring and Raammat deadener.

I was thinking about going the spl meter route instead except....i would have absolutely no clue how to use one..unless it came with a how-to book for the audiohaulically challenged.

    Hey Toxis,

I know you demo these things alot, so, what specific sound quality issues do you find it better than the HK?

Hundreds of times must make it a blind A/B night and day difference. ;) I see an even split here on CP between the two and the SQ nod is almost always to HK (due to ability to handle 4 ohm load of LSi) and feature nod to Denon. Have I missed out on all the SQ superiority somewhere?

Just asking, for my own understanding,

I could see Denon over HK in SQ, esp. when mated with LSi series. You have to really like warm, laid back sound of HK and LSi IMO. The combo also makes the demo source critical since the combo can be absolutely beatiful or absolute crap. Denon has a more conventional sound with a bit of a midrange hump IMO which many may prefer...

I liked HK with my RTis too. The full bodied sound seemed warm and flowing and the power was effortless. I have since found my tube preamp and separate amp to be much more detailed and if that is what some see on the Denon as better SQ I understand.

One person's warm is another person's muddy.

Whether LSi or RTi, I prefer HK. It will soothe the RTi's a tad, and with greater current throughput, is able to open up the LSi's (as much is possible with an AVR). There are other speakers with which I would prefer the characteristics of the Denon.
