They should be 72 inches to the tweeter.

If you look at the speaker w/ the grill off, you will see a smaller driver. That's the tweeter. 6' off the floor to that.

I usually stick em about three feet above ear level firing at each other on opposite walls.... six feet would work well too.

I have some FXi3's mounted up around 8 feet (due to room limitations). Do you think it would be benificial to tilt them in any way?

might help but not sure it will bring all that much benefit since they are not up all that high. if they are on stands i would try propping the back of the speaker a little and see if you hear any difference. just dont do it too much

no tilting needed. those FX's send the audio in two different directions.. they are built that way.. unlike forward firing speakers.. so tilting them isn't going to help any.

Thanks for your reply. If you guys don't think they are mounted too high I won't worry about. They sound fine, but I'm always wondering if things can be better!

Oh, and on the tilting, I should have explained what I was thinking better. I was thinking about tilting them so that the front side (speakers facing the tv) would be tilted slightly downward (they are wall mounted).

unlike your fronts, where you want the tweeter are ear level.. fx speakers you want them to send the audio over your head. I know that sounds **** backwards, but that's going to give you the best sound from them. you don't want your fx to low.

Approximately 6 feet off the ground usually works best for surround speakers.

I don't have a back wall; my room is open to the kitchen and so my back is to the kitchen as well. I had my house pre-wired through our builder (5.1)before fully educating myself on surround.

Anyhow I have two speaker wires hanging from the ceiling for my rear speakers. I've bought ceiling Omnimounts for my RM6800's. What should I expect from this rear ceiling setup and how can I maximize (if at all) the setup? The cieling is 9ft and the speakers will be almost directly over my head. Should I face speakers down towards my ears or not? Any help will suffice since I'm pretty stuck in the placement of these rears.

Buyitnow, welcome. If these are your side surround speakers in a 5.1 setup you should attempt to have the sound coming at you from the side rather than overhead. Experiment with aiming the speakers at the side walls so that the sound will then be reflected toward your listening position.

My rears are in the ceiling and it works out just fine but I suppose that optimally lower might be better for them?? The tweeter is aimable and the woofer is angled toward the listening position.I have no complaints.

Thanks for the replies and links.

My next question of many to come I'm sure. My speaker wires for front left and right speakers are protruding from front wall at about 7' from floor and 2' from celing. I don't want my speakers that high, plus my entertainment center would block them because it is about 8' tall. I want to set up my RM6800 fronts on the book shelfs at about ear level (sitting down) by running the speaker wire through holes i will create behind the entertainment center. Problem is the speaker wire from the wall may not reach the speaker placement I want.

Question: Is there a way to "extend" the speaker wire? Or use some kind of extension method?

Hope my situation is clear. Appreciate any help.

    thanks
