A square wave actually has a lot of other frequencies along with it. If you looked at a graph of voltage vs. frequency, a pure sine wave would have the voltage only showing over whatever frequency it is (a spike pointing up if you would...). When you start distorting the signal and get closer to a square wave, harmonics of the sine wave will start showing more and more voltage. Its also another way to look at THD (total HARMONIC distortion). You want as few frequencies popping up with a measurable amount of voltage as possible.Brian Knauss
