Thank you all! 44 down, 44 more to go.
Did NASCAR at Wes' place. Prime rib, brewski's, chips & dip. Great time and fantastic Daytona 500. Wes' SRS were spectacular. I haven't seen a pair in-person since the late 80's, for got how massive those suckers are; great speakers!

Well, kinda. I need more time to do some concentrated listening with the SVS off. First impressions were positive. Wes and I discussed how there's just no replacement for displacement. I like big speakers; they get the "scale" of the performance right. It just supported what I heard after my listening session with Lsi9's and then switching back to my floorstanders, scale is every bit as important in maintaining the fidelity of the performance, as anything measured.
Considering Wes was running an Onkyo 5-disc DVDP (an older model at that) as his transport (into a Bel Canto DAC) the music sounded very good. I've got to be up-front and honest (don bullet proof vest); I've never liked the "SDA" effect. SDA sounds a little too contrived for my taste; but that's my personal/subjective opinion, and strictly a preference. As far as tonal character of the SRS's, I like them, ALOT. But more listening is needed.

Absolutely agree. There are some really great bookshelf speaks out there (Lsi-9) but a bookshelf will never compete with an equally good floor stander as far as scale is concerned. This scale is what gives weight to the play back and that is very important (IMO) to get the full enjoyment out of the listening experience. I'm still amazed at the sound even my Athena AS-B1 bookshelfs give, but listening to the same tracks on the main rig, the difference is very apparent. There is just so much more scale (weight) to the particular tracks.
H9"Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it.
