Monitor 10 tweeter problem

I have a pair of Monitor 10 speakers that are powered by a Yamaha htr-5240 receiver and the highs (tweeters) cut out when the volume is raised to a moderate level. Then when the volume is lowered the tweeters kick back on. This happens on both speakers and is very frustrating. I have browsed the forums and it seems that possibly a protection circuit might be failing. If this is the case how would I go about repairing it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Call Polk, ask for new polyswitches, they are free. Pull the crossover out, desolder the old ones, solder in the new ones and you're good to go for another 10+ years.Political Correctness'.........defined

Will do. I'll give them a call on Monday.
Thanks a bunch. -
Welcome to to the forum Drew.
The items that need replacing are located inside the rear of your speakers. Turn off your receiver/amp then disconnect the wires at the speakers. Take your speakers outdoors or to a ventillated area. Grab something like a box and place it underneath where the speaker wires connect.
1. Remove three screws then use one hand to support the weight of the crossover that will pop out after you remove the fourth screw.
2. Inside, locate the polyswitch.
3. Carefully squeeze the center of the standoffs, and slide the circuit board off just a little bit.
4. Be extra careful with the standoff located near the rigid wire. Gently move the circuit board just enough so that you can work on the area of the circuit board that you need to.
5. Out with the old, in with the new. -
Great.
Can't wait to get the switches.
Thanks for your help.
