Very few movies I'd actually buy

There are only a handful of movies that I'd actually pay for.
So many are a waste of prefectly good film and others are
watchable a 2 or 3 times, but to pay for them? HA!
I'm more to likely to buy concerts than movies on DVD.
I'd Buy,
Lord Of The Rings-3 pk WS
Full Metal Jacket-WS
Planes, Trains and Automobiles-WS
The Matrix series
Thats about it.
Anything else I can rent or see on TV.
Once you buy em, they're worth nothing.

I currently own approximately 300 movies. Add the DVDs my 2 daughters own and that number jumps to well over 500."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais

I love DVD's!!! Nothing like sitting down, poping in your very own DVD, leaning back and chillin'. No running to the store to spend $4+ for a movie while braving the elements, or running from mad cops...

I quit running to the video store.
I now have Netflix and it comes to my mailbox.
9 bucks a month and I can watch as much as I can mail. -

I have to agree. I use Netflix (just watched Saw2 and The Fog last night), but still like the convenience of being able to watch a certain movie anytime I wish. I cannot tell you how many times I was thankful to have Bad Boys 2 to push my system, A Knights Tale to rock me, or to be able to pop in The Princess Bride for my lady's children to watch and enjoy.
Convenience and different Moods... that is name of the game!Holydoc (Home Theatre Lover)

I think I'm up to about 110+/- dvds now. Most of wish I'm glad I purchased. I admit that there are a few that I wish I hadn't bought, though."SOME PEOPLE CALL ME MAURICE,

I've got around 150 DVD's; I think that 60-70 % are definitely keepers; the rest, good for one time...some not even that.
Things have changed a lot since I'm using Blockbuster on line. We always have "fresh" movies to watch and for me to buy a DVD it needs to be something very special that I know I'll want to watch more than once._________________________________________________

I luv the dvd format (just over 200). I never rent them, buy only. When I get bad ones, a local pawn shop trades them 2for1. In fact, I need to go see them this week since I've been replacing the full screens with wide.Everytime I think I'm out, THEY PULL ME BACK IN!!!!!!

Always buy as well. Sure you're paying more in a sense, but it's cheaper to have friends over than to go to the theatres, AND it's a million times better. Plus I am a movie buff and watch a lot of them multiple times. No going out in crappy weather when I want to stay in and no late fees.
Netflix isn't bad, I use it for TV series' I don't want to buy. -
Sorry - another vote for DVD buying - I probably only have about 80 right now but there are many, many movies worth owning out there IMO. I try to be pretty picky about what I will buy, but the movie "want list" is still almost (but not quite) as never ending as the music want list.VA HT HK AVR20II, Sony S9000ES CD/DVD/SACD, Polk Audio RC80i / Polk Audio CSi3, 60" Panasonic Plasma, Nordost / Signal Cable A2 / Wireworld / Pangea / Magic Power

Netflix ..... Yes I wanna sigh up.There has been so many times I buy a DVD and only watch it once. I own over 200 DVD's and I have sold and traded over the years. Netflix is the key. You rent the movie , it comes right to your house, if you fall in love with that movie, buying it is now the option. If you hate it, you lose nothing but time and a fw bucks. Some movies are a 1 time watch, some are when your bored or anytime like Pulp Fiction.

My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time. -
160 dvd's and counting, wife alphabetized them and put return address labels on the inside, for when we loan themJC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)

I thought I was the only one who did that. I am just a few shy of 300 DVDs, and I keep them all in alphabetical order.
-
I get angry when someone puts one of my DVDs back in NOT alphabetical order, and I only have like 100 of them
OCD strikes again...If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -

I have well over 100 now. I only buy what I have seen and would think of watching again. The things that go on my list are movies I tend to watch just because they are on tv (cable). For some reason I kept stopping at Cronicles of Riddick when it was on cable (don't know why it wasn't that good). But if sub-consiously I wanted to watch it, it goes onto the shelf (just picked up the extended version that I will watch tonight).
There has to be more than 4 movies that are good enough to own. How about the Indiana Jones Trilogy (at least the 1st one). Star Wars? (at least one is a keeper for everybody). Monty Python and the Holy Grail? (if T,P & A is on a keeper list, this should be as well).Denon AVR-3803

For Full Metal Jacket, look around and see if they have a remastered edition out.
I got the first release in widescreen back in 2000 and it's pretty tough to watch. Mostly because the audio is only stereo, though the transfer of the print was a lousy job too.
This one and Pulp Fiction widescreen from the same period are just awful copies.Harman Kardon AVR-435 Receiver

I would add the "Back to the Future" Trilogy to that list. I've watched them back to back to back half a dozen times and I'm still picking up bits that I missed.

Gotta agree on Chronicles of Riddick. Vin Diesel automatically demotes a movie for me anyways.
IMDB users seem to agree - just a 6.2/10. Not terrible, not great.

Now don't tell me you actually believe what everyone on IMDB says. That is just crazy talk!bobman1235 wrote:That's the great thing about m ovies, you can make your own opinion
But you just quoted IMDB as saying what, "Everyone" thinks.. then say in your next linem that movies are good because its a personal opinion/feeling...

Don't get me wrong, it's not that I didn't like the movie, just didn't think it was that great (but it was cool enough to own). (I really liked the beginning). I just thought the story was a little strange and kind of confusing. (let's see if the extra 15 mins on the DVD give you more info).
(I also enjoyed the prequile/sequile [what ever it was]. But again overall, it wasn't that good [but still may add it to my collection]).Denon AVR-3803

Pitch Black. Terrible acting, good background for CoR as well as fairly cool story line. Worth a rent that's for sure.
Still, CoR is in my top 10 fav's, so i'm probably biased!Honoured to be, an original SOPA founding member
