I just received my Denon 4806 from an auction on Ebay with the intent of powering my Polk Lsi15, LsiC and LsiFX surround speakers but, I can't seem to turn up the volume with out the Denon tripping. I can power a Bose AM15 setup in my sons room with out a problem... your thoughts?

The LSi series are very demanding and need plenty of good clean power. Although the Denon is a quality product, it's still a receiver with limited power and it generates a lot of heat. Have you made sure that you have adequate clearance around and above the receiver? I believe the manufacurer recommends 8" from the top. Do you have it in a cabinet with a glass door? Is there a switch for selecting the impedance of the speakers you are using?

The 4806 is only a 6 and 8 ohm receiver. you will need a seperate amp to drive lsi speakers. chances are your sons bose speakers are 8 ohms. For what it is worth it cant hurt to double check your conections to make sure nothing is shorted.

The Denon Avr4806 is designed to run 6-16 ohm speakers. the Lsi series are 4 ohm speakers. While you can use it but as soon as you crank it up, it will cut out as you already experienced. This is normal. Your asking more of the receiver then what it can do.
You should resell it and look for a B&K avr507 s2 receiver. This receiver can and will power the Lsi series speaker as loud as your heart desires. It's rated at 185 watts into 4 ohm load all channels driven from 20hz to 20khz. This is what I used to power mine. B&K is great with Lsi speakers.

If you like the avr4806's preamp section, add a 5 channel amp like a rotel RMb1075 or RMB1095. There cheaper then most other multichannel amps and will get the job done. This is not what I would do but it will work.

It looks like some damage from shipment as well... a sharp blow above the right speaker connects I didn't even notice earlier probably didn't help matters!!

You need an amp. I had the same issue with my Onkyo and added an Aragon amp. Everything is amazing now! Although my 803 is rated for 4 ohms and rarely shutdown at resonably high volumns. Certain peak moments while watching DVDs would cause it shut down.

Of course these peak momnents are the best parts of the surround sound experience!

that B&K should be more than enough haveyouever. When you get everything hooked up, post your thoughts. I bet it was the 15's more than the others that overextended the Denon.

I do not see where the B&K AVR507 S2 is rated for 4 ohms? I would call their custmer service department to find out. When I called yamaha and denon they answered my questions honestly and actually recommended other brands rated for 4 ohms.

OK guys!... I just returned from a visit to Tweeter on the way back from shipping off my damaged Denon 4806 for repairs. It just so happened, the owner was visiting the shop and he had the exact same setup at his house... he seems to have the luxury of switching out systems when the itch occurs?... :)... So, needless to say, I had a very willing partner in this trouble shooting venture. We mirrored our setup up at the house:

    Denon AVR-4806 - no amp!!
    Polk Lsi15s (front)
    Polk LsiC (center)
    Polk LsiFX (surround)

And listened/watched music/movies for several hours (for example: Pink Floyd "The Wall" and The War Of The Worlds) and it never over heated or had an instance of the protective circuitry kicking in and shutting down the show! Not to mention, he's had the arrangement for approx. a year! And according to him, he's very liberal about cranking it up!!... We tested this setup for hours at 0.0dB and higher at times when our ears could handle it!!... the age factor did kick in?

Lesson learned!!... I had a unit damaged in transit!!... the 4, 6, 8 ohm speaker array didn't affect this bad boy at all!... and we did test it with several other brand speakers!!... your thoughts?

I had to put a halt on the B&K order until I could get a handle, or better yet, understanding of what was occuring? One thing I did notice with a closer look at the B&K was the fact it didn't have HDMI switching! I'm going to need that in my setup, it limits the number of digital runs to the Plasma.

how is the ventilation around your denon? if it is not that well ventilated, it will probably run a little hotter could be causing your problems...

I had a Denon AVR-3805, LSi15s front, LSiC center, LSiFX side for about 1 year with no problem. I'm in the process of upgrading to AVR-4306 and LSi25s.

Please let me know how is your AVR-4806 works with LSi15s, LSic and LSiFX?
