Surround Speaker Questions

Is it ok to use a smaller guage wire for my LSiFXs than I'm using for my LSi15s. I'm using 14 guage for the 15s and want to use 18 for the FXs. Should I bi-wire the FXs? And does the length of the wire runs for the FXs matter much?

don't bother with bi wiring your LSiFX's.

you can use 18 guage wire for surrounds.. but me, i like to keep things consistant.. so i use 14 guage for fronts and surrounds.

length of wire in a home theater set up does not matter. It would only matter if the length of cable was very long.. so 150+ feet. don't worry about cable length at all.

good luck. sounds like a fun project. get those things wired, and fire em up!!

Here is a good website to hlep determine if what gauge will be adequate for each length: http://www.roger-russell.com/wire/wire.htm.

The article is good, but the chart is definitly a solid reference.

Tour posted that chart for me about a year ago and it has been helpful in different situations.

Thanks okie for the link, very helpful. And I think I'll not worry about bi wiring. I was going to mount the FXs about three feet above listening level straight into wall studs. Good route, or should I try speaker mounts? And if I should go speaker mounts, which ones would you recommend?

Directly into the studs would be your best bet. Mounting those speakers on brackets would be okay, but it probably won't make a large difference.

straight into the wall, stud! :p

and three feet above your seat is great. Will they be mounted on a side wall or rear wall?
