King Kong DVD

I won't be buying either of these releases. It's already been hinted that Peter Jackson will be doing a directors cut with alot of added footage, so no doubt look for a Lord of the Rings type future release (4 discs with DTS ES track).

"Universal Home Entertainment has finally revealed details about the upcoming DVD release of Peter Jackson’s blockbuster remake of King Kong.
Naomi Watts, Adrien Brody and Jack Black star in this spectacular film filled with heart-pounding action, terrifying creatures and groundbreaking special effects unlike anything you’ve seen before! Get ready for breathtaking action in this thrilling epic adventure about a legendary gorilla captured on a treacherous island and brought to civilization, where he faces the ultimate fight for survival.
“King Kong” will be released in two different versions, as a Single Disc and as a 2-disc Special Edition. Both will feature an anamorphic widescreen transfer of the movie, complete with Dolby Digital 5.1 audio tracks. A fullscreen single-disc version will be sold separately.
The single-disc version will only contain two small features called “The Volkswagen Touareg & King Kong” and “Wish You Were Here.”
The Special Edition will also contain an Introduction by Peter Jackson as well as various Production Featurettes.. One of them will take a close look at Peter Jackson’s version of 1933 New York, another one will examine the mystery of Skull Island, while others will take a close-up look at the film’s extensive post-production steps.
“King Kong” will be in stores on March 28. The single-disc version will carry a $29.98 suggested retail price while the Special Edition version will set you back $31.98. The pricing is unusually high but given Universal’s incompetence in the past years it is hardly surprising that the studio tries to milk the film for what it’s worth."
No excuses!

I haven't seen the film yet so I'll buy the first release on dvd. Depending on how I like it, I may or may not double-dip. I'll buy the single disk as I don't watch, or like, extras so no need to waste the money.

A Must rent. Saw it opening weekend, and it was very close to perfection. If you enjoyed the LOTR series, this is a must. You have to remember, it's fiction, not real-life. But the acting, screen writing, and filmography was stunning.

9 outta 10 stars for me ;) and Yes, it wasn't super fast paced at the beginning, but they were actually taking the time to build a storyline, as a lot of movies seem to skip. Was never bored, I'll tell ya that.

As much as most people say the first hour was boring, which it kinda was... I also thought that once they were on the island it was kinda drawn out and boring too. For me its almost like too much action was boring. First The villagers, then Kong, then the dinosaurs, then the raptors, then the T-rexes, then Kong vs the T-rexes, then the big bugs, then the big bats, then the... It was kinda redundant action.

Also the special effects were range-y. At some times I was like 'wow, that is a realistic monkey and scenery' and sometimes it was just plain bad and cartoon-y. You really need to suspend disbelief for some parts of the movie too. Overall they coulda trimmed a good 45 min off the movie and still have it be well done and fast paced.

What bugged me the most is how some of the cast seemed to survive the impossible. I mean, getting thrown around and beaten up as much as some of the cast did would break many-a-bone let alone kill them outright. Yeah, I know, I know, it's the movies, but GEEZ, even getting yanked around even half as much as Ann Darrow did by Kong would bust her neck numerous times!

Just watched it - loved it. The only part that I thought was really drawn out was some of the island scenes. It was just like, one disaster after another after antoher and it got a little repetitious. The beginning was good though. You do need something called a "story", I thought they did a great job setting it up.

I just watched it tonight myself and this is EXACTLY what I thought. The "action" became boring. Overall a decent movie.

I just finished watching this. My tastes in movies must have changed over the last several months as I usually enjoy a little mindless entertainment but this was the biggest **** fest I can remember seeing. I may have seen worse but my mind must have blocked it out because I can't remember one. It went on and on with completely asinine chases, action scenes, impossible escapes, etc. I know that suspension of belief is a necessary thing when watching movies but you shouldn't have to completely remove your brain to get through them either. The only reason I finished this one is that even though I knew it wouldn't happen I hoped against hope that Ann would jump off the Empire State building when Kong died.

This is film was nothing more that a non stop special effects showcase with nothing else going for it. It lacked the emotion of the original and even the mid-70's remake. I'd give it a 2 out of 10 rating. I am embarassed to admit that I actually bought this blind instead of renting.

I watched this tonight too. The movie was to long... some scenes went on way to long and boring after a while.

I did like the surround mix in the last 15 - 20 minutes of the movie though. The airplane scenes had a really good audio mix.

I tried to watch this disc, but I fell asleep in the middle of the fight with the dinosaurs. That probably wasnt the intended effect. I just thought it was a multiple hour bore. Also, Dolby Digital seems to be getting more muffly sounding on these things, or the movie's mix was weak. I had to push my sony es receiver's volume to -7, and adjust the subs. I thought a movie about a big monkey would have more bass and stuff...

Yeah, watching this once was enough for me.
Good story developement, good actors (naomi Yum) and acting,
but the film was just overwhelmed with endless computer generated action scenes.
