For a cool 1/4 million dollars, I would think that I could have improved on the asthetics somewhat. It looks like they scabbed on a huge horn mounted on top of a dual Corian bathroom sink countertop. :D

I'm not really into uber expensive gear, but I did hear some B&W 800s on Thursday afternoon that tripped my switch, Jesse. Enough so that I may be in the market for a pair of their offerings for my next upgrade.
HT Optoma HD25 LV on 80" DIY Screen, Anthem MRX 300 Receiver, Pioneer Elite BDP 51FD Polk CS350LS, Polk SDA1C, Polk FX300, Polk RT55, Dual EBS Adire Shiva 320watt tuned to 17hz, ICs-DIY Twisted Prs, Speaker-Raymond Cable

I would be scared to listen to a horn of that size. I like keeping my hearing.

I also agree they are some ugly **** speakers. A nice something cabnet of some sorts would have helped.

But dispite all that, if they truely sound awesome, one could get past the looks.

Their look certainly makes a statement. Anyone who knows nothing at all about audio would look at those and think those are serious speakers. Certainly the Lamborghini of loud speakers (love it hate it kinda looks). I'd take 'em if I could build a really nice "art deco" room around them, they'd be right at home then. ;)

If you didn't read the linked article on Alon and his Magico Mini's, it's worth it.

Besides the mini's, which look interesting in their own right, it includes pics of the Ultimate in development. A couple pics give a sense of scale to them. Looks like about 8-1/2 feet tall...

It looks like a "futuristic" speaker that someone from the 1950's would have dreamed up as what we would be using in the next century. Weird.

Here's the TAS review and how they sounded to Robert Harley, lucky ****.

    http://www.magico.net/MAGICO_Ultimate.pdf

    From the review,
"The most striking aspect of the Ultimate’s sound
was a palpability and immediacy that went far
beyond anything I’ve previously heard in reproduced
music. The illusion of the instrument actually in the listening
room was so tangible it was spooky. This wasn’t
an incremental advance in realism; it was a giant
leap. Although apparent on every instrument and
every disc, it was particularly stunning on voice. The
sense of realism was so palpable that hearing vocals
through the system produced an almost eerie feeling
that another human presence had suddenly
appeared in the room. Surprisingly, every piece of
music I played created the impression of hearing real
instruments rather than a facsimile of them."

Did you bother to read the articles?

From the 6 Moons article, "Three pairs have already been built, two of which will be installed in the Bay Area, one in Los Angeles. The above is an actual photograph -- not a computer rendering -- of the finalized pair that's currently taking up pride of place in Alon's room to fine-tune crossover settings."

ROFL!! Thanks for setting the example, F1.

I personally think they (the first ones) look great. I mean, that's just an awesome look. And $10,000 drivers? I'd love to hear 'em, too.

Oh, and 5 Benchmark DACs? Per speaker? That's some high end stuff, there!
