Snipe bids?

How many of you snipe bid on e-bay?
I usually like to get my name in the bid history before I enter a last second bid but sometimes I just find something that is about to end and figure why not wait.
So how about you?
How do you usually handle yourself on the bay?

I snipe all the time, sometimes even set my alarm clock if it is something I really want. I just sniped a bid away from a guy bidding on a sunfire 600 amp, got in a bid the last 2 seconds. The other guy even emailed me through ebay, asking me if I would sell it to him for 50.00 more.......NO Chance.......

I rarely if ever put in a "feeler" bid, I will wait till the last minute to see how things are going...

If its something I really want, I will snipe. If I just sort of wouldn't mind having it, I'll bid whenever.

I don't like to bid on an item before right at the end because it establishes to competing buyers that their is more competition. I am afraid this raises their awareness of the competition for the item and that it drives up the price.

So true; however, I sometimes like to make the first bid, just a few bucks above starting price...

It's how I've won every auction. So far, I've won about 70% of what I've wanted and, imo, haven't overpaid a single time.

It really helps to have a super fast connection, too. ;):D

I hate snipers. Probably because the first ever auction I tried I got hosed. I never heard of snipers so I thought it was a straight up auction so I followed it for the 2 days it was on. I had the thing won up til the last 15 seconds and then when I refreshed the screen, the auction was over and Id been outbid by something like 5 bids that came in at the last 2 seconds! Ugh! That was the end of my Ebaying. Havent been back since.

I don't have sniping software and can put 5 bids in in less than 25 seconds.

Most of the time, I use Esnipe, but sometimes, I just chance it. It really depends how much interest there is and how much I really want it.

If you want the item, get er done. Whatever it takes. It's a lot easier than sitting on the backporch and whittlin' one out yourself.

If you want it, don't bid on it while the auction is active. Why drive the price up? Set your high bid at whatever your budget is and snipe it at about six seconds, maybe eight.

Sometimes, I put the bids in manually at the last second, just to have some fun. But if I really want it, or need it, out comes the scope! :D

I'll usually put in a minimal bid in the beginning, then wait to the end and manually snipe. However, I know how much I'm willing to pay and snipe with that amount in the last 9 or so seconds. It give me a chance to win and keeps me from getting crazy and upbidding over my budget at the last minute.

Never tried the software. If I lose, I know that item will come back around at some time :)

I manually snipe and use a sniper service. Usually pull the trigger with 7 seconds to go.

The great thing about sniping is it keeps you from overpaying due to getting competitive. You get one shot, you win or lose, either way you move on.

Cover bids make no sense. Here's a world Champion cover bid artist in action, if I ever saw one. Can you detect a pattern? :D

Yep, have two windows open at the same time, and keep refreshing one where you have the countdown. Then Alt/TAB to your other window at 7 seconds left, hit enter, Confirm.....Win, and Be happy.....

I'm with Frank on this one. I put in the max dollars I am willing to pay (including the shipping) and then I am done with it. If I don't get it at the price I want then oh well. No loss to me I will just try again at a later date. I find it funny how people get all bent out of shape over it.

When I Ebay, I research what the going price for the item is (locally and internet) and then I bid from there. Because sometimes you can get certain items a hellava lot cheaper buy going to amazon...or wherever. I see people bidding on things that I bought for 20-30 dollars cheaper through a internet retail store.

When I see that I know people are not doing their homework, and the ebay sellers are laughing all the way to the bank.

But Ave, why not snipe that amount instead? Hanging a reserve bid out there early only insures that you pay a higher percentage of your max bid, IME....

Auction is stil active and since you can't bid against yourself, all his bids are riding off of this one:

I still haven't figured out why people bid in anything other than the last hour or so. And yea I have sniped. But then I don't buy a bunch of stuff on the bay, I have a hard time trusting it.

Over 300 snipes served. I miss the odd item, when some moron has fallen in love with the auction, but rarely feel that I over paid and with smart BIN sightings that the seller doesn't know what they have, I have more than equalled my few overpayments.

Well first I really have no time to sit and watch, and second, like I said I did the math and if I cannot get said item under or for my max amount then I feel it wasn't meant to be.
