    2 questions.

    1) How does someone come to own one of these?
    2) Why would someone ever want to buy one for, lets assume, their home?

I pray they are selling this on behalf of some poorly run hospital or clinic.

It is the medical communities instrument version of Broke Back Mountain for medical purposes to look for polyps/tumors. If found, they are removed & hopefully you won't die of cancer.

"Sigmoidoscopy (sig-MOY-DAHS-kuh-pee) Inspection of the lower colon using a thin, lighted tube called a sigmoidoscope. Samples of tissue or cells may be collected for examination under a microscope. Also called proctosigmoidoscopy."

It's done on both men & women. Sometimes the tumors are so buried, they can't be found.

I should know, my father died of cancer, if they had found were it was buried in his intestines he might have survived. By the time they did, it had spread to his liver & it was too late by then!

    Don't laugh but....

My company just bought one of these off of E-bay about a year ago. We do engineering (M/E/P) work. As sick as it may sound they are quite handy for looking in "tight" spaces, i.e wall cavities, inside ducts, etc.. With out knowning what it did in its former life you probably wouldn't guess that one even is just by looking at it. It is kind of a wierd thing to sell though.

Yes, it was cleaned up very well before the sale,
    No, it doesn't smell,
    No, you can't borrow it.
