Got the suckers in today. All I can say is WOW :D! Have not had time to tune them all the way yet, but already they sound a lot better than my old Polks. The tweeters sound very smooooth :). I will probably get a chance to play with the x-overs later tomorrow. Will post more info a little later.

I first installed the tweeter in the window sale things and was not happy with the fit. I then moved it to the door.

Above the floor area, under the dash. They are pretty big, could not fit them behind my door panels. The good thing about this is that I can tune the components via the x-over pretty easily. I may modifiy their location at a later time.

So what did you do about the "holes of shame" in your mirror sail panels?

I mounted my old MM6 tweets there but used the surface mount so Ive only got 2 small screw holes in there.

My A pillars are a different thing. If I ever move them Ill have to figure out how to cover up my 2" holes I had to cut out. Probably cruise my local junk yards and look for a set of used A's.

You hit the nail on the head. I went down to the junkyard and got them for $15 bucks. Could have probably haggled some more, but it's sure a lot less than the dealer :D. We have a lot of junkyards here, this has helped me out on several ocassions. The car I took these out of actually had black leather seats. I almost went back to see how much they wanted for them, but then said nah :).

Just wanted to give a little update on these things. I have not played with the supplied x-overs yet, but I am very happy with the sound coming from them. I set them up to what the manual had stated, they also state to experiment with the x-over settings, just have not had the time. They are on the factory setting of 2,200Hz at 12dB/Octave. Both can be switched to 2,600Hz as well. I also have left both of the protection circuits engaged.

The tweeters sound very smooth. I actually played some of my MP3 cd's and was wondering how they would sound with the Eclipse Harmonizer engaged. It adds harmonics to enhance high frquencies with compressed media. I have it on the lower setting most of the time. When I would engage it on the high setting with my old speakers the sound was too bright, and at times harsh. This is not the case at all with these tweeters. I can put it on the higher setting and the music just sounds like it has more sparkle to it, non of the brightness or harshness is there like before :). This tweeter is one sweet unit that provides nice detail. The midrange is very good as well. Drums and other instruments sound very natural. They provide a good amount of kick up front. Adding this set really helped solidify my front stage compared to my old sets. I can lower my high pass x-over point without being penalized with muddy sound at higher volumes. They stay on point and clear the whole way through. This component set is a great bargain. I highly recommend them.

Since I am bored and will not be doing anything around the house or car due to a big headache, I decided to give a final update on this wonderful set of speakers. This set has been properly broken in. They have been in my car for several weeks now. I have them crossed over at 2,200Hz at 12/Octave. I have them attenuated at the Middle Optimum setting. What the manual says about this setting "Recommended with installation of the tweeters directly in the listening axis and/or ear proximity e.g., A- or Bpillar, front instrument panel area with strong windshield reflection, or rear installation in direct proximity of the back window. The gradient frequency response was designed in such a way that the middle- to high-tone levels drop continually by octave, thus guaranteeing stress-free listening with excellent frontstaging". I also have the phase on the tweeters reversed.

Let me just say that the money spent on this set is money well spent. I believe you get more than what you pay for. The sound that comes out of these things is very smooth and detailed. I listen to a variety of music and they do a great job with whatever I throw at them. At higher volumes they stay clean and clear, never becoming harsh. I am still amazed at the sound that the tweeters produce, never becoming fatiguing or harsh. If you have the opportunity to give these a shot, or a listen do yourself a favor and do it. So far I only know of one place in the U.S. that carries them. If you happen to live in New Jersey and are interested, send me PM so I can point you the right way.

Name sucking or not, Rainbows are some of the best speakers around ;). They are handmade in Germany, and for my set, all of the manufacturing of parts was also in Germany.

Man, this dissing Rainbow because of their name is getting old, fast. Actually I thought it was pretty lame the first time around. They're indisputably (did I just make up a word? :D) great speakers. Quit making fun of the name. I never even thought about it until you guys brought it up.
