Worst ever rendition of National Anthem

That was the worst rendition of our National Anthem in the history of the United States. Absolute garbage. It was an embarrassment. Aretha and Aaron should have been booed out of the stadium and flogged for that. They both can sing, and sing well but that was torture to listen to.

They owe me a written apology.

The National Anthem is hard to sing in the first place. Then so called singers are stupid enough to try and make it fancy, rather than making sure that they have the capability to switch back & forth between 3 octaves! As well as make sure that they know all the words to the song.

Since they don't, they end up making complete fools out of themselves on National TV!

    i absolutely agree...
i couldn't help but think of how many of these players had been anticipating that very moment for most of their lives -- hearing the national anthem while standing on a super bowl field and the emotional intensity inherent in the situation
(think of whitney houston's rendition in '91)
i'm sure more than a few of them felt they were deprived of this little treasure
i mean, my god, nevermind the singing, what was up with that god-awful k-mart R&B beat playing in the background....
did All -4 -One or Color Me Badd hack up one last instrumental B-side for the occasion?

Well at least they KNEW the lyrics. I've seen a few times where the "artist" didn't even know the lyrics and made some up as they went.

But, I was embarrassed for them both. It wasn't the worst rendition, but definitely in the top 10 all-time worst for sure.

The worst still goes to Rosanne Barr. I still to this day can't believe that someone would have asked her to sing anything, much less the Anthem.

I agree. This is the National Anthem, so show some respect for the song and try not trample on it with questionable vocal acrobatics.

Only thing worse than the A. Neville version would have been if Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne would have been invited to sing it. He did such a great job of "Take Me Out To The Ball Game" during the 7th inning stretch at Wrigley Field a couple years ago.

I'm all for artists putting their stamp on something, but the National Anthem is our national treasure and it needs no spicing up. Sing it in the manner in which it was conceived.

I am absolutely sick and tired of people trying to put their own personal touch to OUR national anthem. Someday they're going to let Patti LaBelle do it, and then you're really going to hear bad. She will stretch out the last word (brave) with a lot of whooping and WHOA-WHOAAAAA'S unless someone grabs the mic off her, or guns her from the 700 level.

And if they let one of our C & W boys do it, and he tries it with his stupid cowboy hat on, I hope that guy in the 700 level can take the hat off for him during the first couple notes. Not the head, just the hat. Son-of-a-B#tch will sing it right after that eh?

Bottom line, get one of the fat opera boys to do it justice, or don't do it at all.

It was bad, very bad, even worse than Jagger, way worse. I have to say I hate when singers do "their" version or interpretation, its our National Anthem for goodness sake.

I don't know, do other countries have singers do this to there anthem? Never heard any but dont really know. Not that it even really matters what others do. This is the USA and that is our Anthem and quit **** with it.

OK, it was bad, for sure. Since both of them a good singers, I'm just wondering how much the electronics and the extremely poor acoustics contributed to the bad sound. Aaron's mic barely worked, and on the pre-game show, a couple of the mics didn't work either.

BTW, Stevie Wonder should not be on the same stage with young, talentless entertainers who butcher his songs and marginalize his legacy.

I completely agree that it was one of the worst, if not THE worst I've ever heard.

I also agree 100% with hoosier21- There's really only one way to sing it. Anything else detracts from it. Pitiful.

WOW! I don't think I have ever seen such unanimous agreement.

One of you more eloquent gentlemen need to draft a letter to the NFL, digitally sign all of your names to it demanding that they make sure whoever they get to sing the anthem, will sing it in the traditional manner.

Express your disapproval of all the last few games where the entertainers butchered the song & that it deserves more respect from both the NFL & the entertainers.

Well, I don't care about the traditional version because it's boring. If Whitney Houston had sang the traditional version, it would not have been the best anthem ever. What made it great was her interpretation of the song. Times change and so do musical tastes and preferences. The anthem is no different. Just because the song has been f**ked up recently doesn't mean we should only insist upon singing it in the traditional manner.

However, I agree with the instrumental thing. That way, the entire audience can sing along and f*ck it up in unison!

It's hard enough to sing it in the traditional manner, if you add more fancy crap to it you're just asking for trouble.

As far as just instrumental/w audience, I think it would be great since nobody will have a mic attached to them, so you won't be able to hear how bad everyone else is!

You'll be too focused on making sure YOU don't screw it up! WAAAA! :D
