I got a VOX Valvetronix AD120VTX. Pretty good amp with a full tonelab se built in the top of it. The tube drive is what sounded so good and why I decided to go with it over the Fender Twin Reverb. It has built in effects and amp modeling. I really wanted to play around with that. New era so I figured what the hell.

I tried other amp models like the Line 6 stuff but the Vox blew them away.
I'm alittle disapointed that I didn't demo a new Marshal stack but Honestly I didn't want all that. A combo is very nice.

Jeezuz....another flavor of the month to keep track of.

Dan, you keep these things in a PDA or some such to keep track of?

Good to see you getting your groove on, dude!

Nice amp, I dont mean to dis it but VOX's always sound nice but are the ugliest amps I have ever seen. No offense. They seem like a style that comes from 1930 with the diamond crosshatch front and stuff.

Mesa-Boogies kick ****, I have always liked those.

Good choice and hope you like your new toy :) What guitars do you play through it?

    TroyD,
I think this flavor is a good one. I'm very excited to be playing again. You think it's hard to pick out home audio speakers, amps, wire cd players ,etc?? You should try picking out Pro audio gear. Man let me tell you, I had such a hard time. Years ago I thought it was pretty easy, I knew what my hero played, what I liked the looks of, how things sounded then.Today, **** dude I started shopping around and I found that things have changed alot, some stayed the same. Modeling amps are whats hot now, built in effects and tuners. I knew what I liked but I kept checking these cool new things out(you would call the flavor of the month). Well thats what I ended up with. After alot of hours spend playing new and old technology, I picked up the Vox amp.

    StopherJJ1980,
No disrespect taken Bro, the Vox is ugly from many points of view but the sound quality is top notch. Actually I really wanted a Mesa Boogie. I was after the Recto-Verb and the Tripple Recto. Both amps are killer for Heavy Metal playing. I got some killer tones out of them but the problem I had with em is the clean channel, it didn't exsist. It still sounded like a driven amp like the gain was ran a bit to high to play clean. Now understand me I'm a Fender Twin Reverb guy, Most likely will still get one as nothing on gods green earth that I have played has a better sounding clean channel. My Vox is close but isn't better.
I also really considered Marshall. The drive you can get out of a JCM2000 head and a 4 x12 cabnet is Incredible. But the size and sheer power of that setup(not to mention it started breaking my budget)isn't practical for home practice. Again this is something that I will consider down the road. Also with that setup , it required me to buy a Chorus pedal and a Distortion pedal of some kind, flanger and delay hell a tuner all comes into the budget and that killed me dead. I wanted to stay under 1500.00 for the rig minus the guitar.I just made it with the Vox and a cord.
My guitar is a Jackson SL3 in clear deep red. It has 2 Semour Hot rail pickups in the neck and middle positon and a Duncan D somthing in the bridge position. Crazy good guitar. It was alittle more money then I wanted to spend but it was worth it. I was hunting a Fender Strat but the noise of the single pickups I didn't want this time around. The Hot rail pickups are killer with a crystal clear tone and no noise. best of both worlds to me.

Yes looking like the Beatles retro amp it does, but are not the Beatles cool as ****?

Not dissin' your amp a bit. I owned VOX gear in the 60s-70s. There was quite a pissing match between them and Fender back then over patent infringement on the blackface pre circuitry.

I didn't know that. Huh, well I think Fender probably won that debate.

Congrats on getting something that you really like and that works for you. Do you ever plan on recording anything at all?

Years ago I wrote some good songs. I recorded them myself on a tape deck. Already I'm working on a new song thats kinda apart of an old song I wrote. yeah if I like the way it comes out, or if I come up with alot of good material, I will spend the cash to get it done professionally this time.
